Pioneer PL 512 set up?

A blast from the past but I hope someone can help me please.

I bought this turntable many years ago and have finally got my old system put together in our house after storing it at my mothers.

For the life of me I cannot remember how to balance the counterweight correctly on the arm so as to stop the stylus from skating all over the place.

I think I have to balnce the arm first and then turn the weight again to set it up.

You'll realise I don't have the manual anymore!!

If anyone can help, I'll be very grateful.

Cheers

OK, here goes! -

1. Turn antiskating control to 0

2. Ignoring the numbers on the balance weight, adjust the whole thing until the arm balances horizontally.

3. Holding the weight in this position, turn the ring on the weight with the numbers on it ONLY until the '0' lines up with the indication line on the arm. Check the arm is still floating horizontally.

4. Now screw the whole weight forwards on the arm until the number appropriate to the tracking force on your cartridge lines up with the indication line.

5. Set the antiskating control to the same value as this.

6. Put record on turntable, cue up record, enjoy!!

Many thanks friend. I could vaguely remember the procedure as being like that but I am grateful for you taking the time out to help.

This whole forum is superb for help like this, I have been helped in other threads before, tremendous.
