I have to give this product a plug and also thank Neat Acoustics for lending me the unit after using in the system that gave them the award for Best Stereo performance at the Bristol HiFi Show. Also a note of thanks to Cs2005 (Chris) who set me off on the path.
If this sounds like some award ceremony speech I can only apologise. But for the last two years my Naim system has suffered from mains interference which not only spoilt my enjoyment, but, could at some times be quite scary as some of the bangs and pops could reach very loud levels.
Being a bit of a sceptic when it comes to snake oil solutions I really was not going to go down the route of buying something that might fix the problem, but might also cause other less savoury effects on sound quality as I have heard that many conditioners suck the life from a system.
Just happening to be near NEATs workshop today I thought I might pop in to see if I could pick Bobs brains on a replacement amp, when I spotted a box with mains conditioner written on the side. That has to be fate, because NEAT have never advocated anything like that. They had used it at the show as a trial because of the notoriously bad mains supplies and had just brought it back.
End result...........it

works I could'nt believe it, no more snap, cracle and pop. But the final test was to see if it sounded different..........it does, something has changed, the sound is more comfortable and it sounds like a whole chunk of noise has been taken out. Now I am not sure how this is possible and Im not sure if its done anything detrimental, but there is no doubt it sounds different and it seems I can now turn the volume up higher.
Tried Miles Davis-Kind of Blue, wow that was impressive, the sound of the ride cymbal is amazing, I know, I play drums and I wanted that cymbal for Jazz work. Tool-Lateralus sounded incredible. Nirvana-Nevermind sounded a bit polite until I decided a bit more volume was necessary and suddenly it all snapped into focus.
I cant believe I have bought a 'tweek' and it actually works and they say you cant teach an old dog new tricks.
www.james-audio.com (crap website mind you) if you want to know more. I have no affiliation with James Audio, infact I have never met him and the unit was simply a loan product to NEAT for test purposes.
