Replacement required any advice?

Advice anyone - I am looking to replace my ageing Technics separates system (twenty years old) with something much smaller this time around. I was really into my music when I purchased the Technics and although I still like my music, I feel that a separate amp, twin tape deck, record deck, CD player and twenty channel graphic equaliser is no longer my must have product. Besides technology has moved on in leaps and bounds with products being much miniaturised. I was thinking of something from Denon.

The Linn Classik or the Arcam Solo are superb one box cd/tuner/amp systems.

I did the same thing, replacing a circa 1985 top end Technics system with a far smaller Denon system, which came with some rather good Mission speakers. It looks great and sounds pretty good too. That was a few years ago though, so I doubt they still make that system.

If I was doing it now, I would be tempted by the Arcam Solo, as already mentioned.

the small all in one Denon systems really are great systems for what they are , small all in one systems. But the Linn Classik is an amazing all in one system the sound quality is on par with seperates .

Have looked at the Linn Classik website and it does tick all the right boxes except for one item I really must have included in the specs - DAB radio as well as FM. I am well aware that FM with a good signal can produce superior sound quality to DAB. However, given this is a product on past history I only replace every twenty years or so, I doubt that FM will still be around then.

My budget is something I like at a reasonable price - seriously though I don't listen to music like I used to and I have a pretty good 5.1 system with amp and matching DVD recorder so can also use that. I reckon around the £500 mark.

I was looking at DAB tuners until i read in numerous places that FM actually has far superior quality. Seems that most stations are broadcasting over DAB at a low bit rate (For now) which results in low sound quality.

Obviously read up on this and you may find that in fact you don't want DAB

I have read lots of similar reports which is why I want both options i.e. DAB and FM. I think for the money the little Denon seems to fit the bill.

After much procrastination I finally decided to plump for the little Denon M35 DAB with the SC-M73 speakers. My initial impressions are one of delight and astonishment at both the build quality and the performance of this unit. It might not be top of the tree when it comes to Hi Fi but it will do me. After having a pretty good but aging Technics system I was unsure what to expect from such a tiny unit. However, I needn't have worried, the weighty little speakers show no distortion or resonance even when approaching their volume limits and the sound stage is first class. The aerial for DAB whilst it is just a wire type affair tuned in just about every DAB channel and all appear to be clear as crystal. I can well understand why the Gadget Show voted this their favourite - such a small but impressive package.
