Smile Thank you

Exactly the same problem, every time we turned the stereo on we jumped out of our skins. Speakers were going on e-bay, stereo in the recycling! Just spent an hour stripping it down. Took the volume control apart... full of grease. Cleaned it up with cotton buds and acetone (probably a bit strong but it worked!). Now listening to the radio again and saved the £250 i was just about to spend on a new unit. Never used a forum before, so thanks to all for advice, great help.

Hi guys!

Just registered on the forum to say a big thank you for this useful cleanip tip! I had desoldered my rotary encoder thinking about replacing it with a spare before I considered doing a simple search for the issue on the Net.

Fortunately, I stumbled upon this thread, took isopropyl alcohol and cleaned the encoder (bent the tabs apart). After resoldering it tonight, I can see it is back in perfect working condition. For a problem that has plagued me for so long, this is a real pleasure to see.

So again, many thanks to all of you!

Cheers from France,

Vincent

Tried cleaning the volume thread - didn't work...

Hi there...the advice on here made me hopeful I could fix the volume issue on my UD-M30. Followed the advice, there did seem to be a little 'grease' or something but nothing major. Cleaned the thread of the volume control, put it all back together - no change. Maybe I'll have another go, some people have commented that all you need to do it pull the volume knob off and clean the thread.
Will stick to using the remote, and maybe look out for a cheap second-hand unit.

***Update***
I did have another go, and this time removed the little grey 'volume control' by prising away the four metal strips - found some sticky grease under there, cleaned that up and now the volume control works - brilliant!

I have a Denon UD-M50, and the cleaning trick worked perfectly on this model as well. I bent the 4 metal strips on the volume control to the side so I could take the volume control apart. There was a lot of grease on the contact wheel inside. After removing this with isopropanol and reassembling, it worked perfectly again.
