Billy Cobham - 'Warning' , Cd on system below .

I comes with a warning printed on the back that says .
WARNING.
This is a pure digital recording . Due to the nature of the excessive transients on this album please exercise caution in determining proper playback levels. Severe damage could result to your sound system if played at extreme high levels .

They are not wrong

Cassandra Wilson "Blue Light 'Til Dawn"

on the kitchen system :-

EAC FLAC rip streamed to crappy laptop (to be replace with a Raspberry Pi when I can get my hands on one) running XBMC Live on a USB stick -> Fiio L7/E7 -> 1970s Pioneer amp -> Gale Gold Monitors

Quite possibly the ultimate budget/quality streaming solution...who needs Sonos/Squeezebox etc when there's a geeky tinkerer in the house? :-)

Same here D-Fens

Some classic Bruce on here, what are you're favourite tracks? I love 'Jack of all Trades' and 'Death to my Hometown' Roll on the summer

Bruce Springsteen - Wrecking Ball - 2 x 180g vinyl, sounds sublime.

The original Portishead album on vinyl;

Made even more splendid by the presence of a Van den Hul "The Grail" phono stage at the bottom of the rack which is here for review.

Is your copy the digitally remastered one on Eagle Records? Personally, I always felt the Warning tag was a bit of hype, as I have a few other recordings that can make you jump here and there to at least the same degree as anything on Warning, notably The City and El Greco by Vangelis, The Longest Day (a brilliant four disc set of great war movie themes) and even the 1963 live recording of the Dave Brubeck Quartet at Carnegie Hall (which one assumes was done using valve equipment).

Virtually all recordings are made using a dynamic range limiter (a "gate" as they're called). I suspect that for Warning all they did was set the the gate a little wider than usual, though I don't think they dispensed entirely with any of the regular studio devices.

For recordings which which you really do need to exercise caution, try some of the Telarcs (of which I have two, albeit now rather old ones from the late 80's), the sleeve notes to which state that the signal was not passed through any processing device such as a compressor, limiter or equalizer. In terms of dynamic range, those really are wide open (even if the Mancini's Greatest Hits one sounds, oddly, like it was recorded in an aircraft hangar. Musically, Ultimate Mancini on Concord is much better).

Just listening to Fourplay's Elixir (1995) at home (Wadia/Trichord/Bryston/PMC/PurePower).

No my copy of Warning is on the GRP label , produced by Billy Cobham himself so I guess it must be an original copy .
If you want something to really blow your socks off Try ,
Venetian snares - Rossz Csillag allatt Szuletett .

It may not be to your taste but it is very clever and an amazing experience on a good system !
In fact I am going to play the Cd now on the system below .

Gary Carpenter & Tribal Heat ~ Sirena (2008). Review at Sirena: Gary Carpenter: Amazon.co.uk: Music.
---------------------------------------------------------
Home system ~ Wadia 8, Trichord Pulsar D:AC, Bryston BP26 + 7B-SST's, PMC IB2's, PurePower 2000i, Van Damme cables, Mana Platforms (custom dimensions).

For mains conditioners/regenerators, had I known about it at the time, I might, instead of the PurePower, have bought AG1500 AC ReGenerator 1500W, UPSMart for considerably less money.
