Marantz Upgrade or leave as is???

Hi All

I am trying to decide whether or not to upgrade my Marantz PM6002 to the new PM6004. I am also considering upgrading the Marantz SA7001 (SACD Player) to a CD spinner the Marantz CD6004. I really want to know whether I would in fact hear any differences in the sound. The sound I have at present is really great although on the amp if the volume is set under the 9 position on a clock face then the amp sounds a little lack lustre, but above this setting then the sound is awesome it's kind of like a flat spot. My dilema is:

1. keep the amp and change the SACD to a better unit?
2. Keep the SACD and change the amp to a better unit?
3. Or Change both

Budget is around £600 plus what ever I get if I am advised to change both units another £300 perhaps if I sell them, so approx £900

Hopefully someone can offer some constructive advice?

Thanks in advance

R

For a budget of £900 for a CD player and amp, you might want to look a bit higher and you should without a doubt hear a marked improvement in sound quality.

You don't mention your speakers ! I'd go second hand for Musical Fidelity A3.2 amp and A3.2 cd player. Should be in budget and will walk all over the Marantz units. I'm a little biased as I own a A3.2. You should investigate used in my opinion.

Keep the cdp and look to change to amp and possible speakers - once we know what speakers you have, then suitable suggestion can be made

Imho leave well alone, from 6001 to 6002 will be no marked difference.....if you then choose to go from 7001 to 6004 another backwards step.....the 7001 is an amazing cd spinner than happens to do SACD to. If you have 1k to spend then look at MF M3i integrated...shouldgive you want at 9am.

Hi Rich,

Yes sorry, I should never go on the forums late at night! I meant from 6002 to 6004 you will not hear a massive difference imho.

I didn't post the link, it was automatically generated as far as I am aware, just from me typing cd player.

If you like the Marantz sound I'd leave the CD player as is and opt for a meatier amp. I've got the PM7003 and it never goes past 9 o'clock. And, it's in a large room. I'm sure the PM7004 will be very similar performance wise. It looks to be same but, with an extra mid pot in place of the 3's power amp button.
