Question Want to play mp3s from USB in home stereo... why so complicated?

Greetings everyone.

Been reading the board for a couple hours, can't seem to solve this problem.

It's simple, really. A basic garage stereo. I have an older receiver and speakers, and just need to buy a CD player with USB input so that I can play some music in my garage. I purchased one for my Subaru, a nice Sony CD player with USB input. It was maybe $120, and it works great. I never even use the CD functionality.

However, I can't find a product like this for a home system. Why not? Nobody makes one?

I have mp3s on my PC, and can easily put them onto a USB, or even a CD-R. I do not own an I-pod, and do not want one.

I'm looking at DAC systems that offer the functionality, but I don't think I need to drop $800 on a cheap garage stereo. What gives? Am I missing something?

Hi and welcome

A couple of dacs that has USB functionallity:
Cambridge Audio Dac Magic £229
Beresford TC-7520 and Cainman £139 and £229.
Home HI-FI

As for cdplayer, I only know of one with USB here, not that i know of a lot of other cdplayers anyway

Whether or not they are available where you are i cant say.
I'm sure there are other cdp with USB which maybe cheaper which other users will hopefully suggest.

Since you are not worried about playing cd's, maybe a dac will be the best suited.

Good Idea.. I have a 3yr old pioneer DV400 dvd player which also has usb'and probably used only once with a film to see if it works. I have used it to play cd's, but due to its internal dac the sound wasn't that good.
