The key is whether your LG TV has analog 'Audio Outs'.
These could be Red and White RVA-style connector on the back, or as MrBenn points out, the Audio Out could be hidden in the SCART connector. Simply enough to access with the SCART adapter he suggests.
One way or another though, your TV has to have an analog Audio Output.
If nothing else, you can feed an amp from the headphone output; again, if your TV has one.
Some TV's allow the Audio Out to be Variable or Fixed, though 'Fixed' is more common. If the Audio Out is 'Variable', then the TV sound will change with the TV volume control. However, if the Audio Out is 'Fixed', then changing the TV volume will not effect it. You will have to raise and lower the volume with the remote control for your Audio Amp.
If there is absolutely no source of ANALOG Audio Out on your TV, then things get complicated. That means you need some type of external DAC (Digital-to-Analog Converter). This could literally be an external device, or it could be built into an AV amp.
Whether or not an analog Audio Out is available is usually brand specific; Newer Samsungs don't have them, but Sony's typically do. Since MrBenn's LG TV has Audio Outs, it is very likely that yours does to, it is just a matter of finding it.
