Connecting TV to my high end stereo

Hi guys,

Sorry to start yet another thread, I feel like I'm hijacking the entire forum.

I think I might forget about surround sound for the moment, it's just you get a lot more speaker for your money if you're buying 2 speakers instead of 6!

So, I have a few questions.

My stereo will go source, I think Linn DS -> Amp -> Speakers

How can I best plug my TV into my stereo?

I will have PS3, Xbox, Virgin + box all plugged into my TV, and I want them all to play through my stereo speakers.

If I simply feed my TV -> Amp , I will get better sound than using the TV's speakers, but I think I will still be relying on the crappy DACs in the PS3 etc (does the TV itself have a DAC built in? - mine is Pioneer Kuro LX5090). Even so, I don't imagine its amazing audiophile quality.

So, if I buy a dedicated DAC, can I go TV -> DAC -> Amp -> Speakers.

If so, would the DAC then do all the digital to analogue conversion for all the sources going into the TV, including the Virgin box, the Xbox, everything?

So, my Amp would have 2 sources going into it, my music source the Linn DS, and also the separate DAC that my TV runs through.

Would I be able to use a remote control to switch my amp between TV and music mode? Do most amps have this option, or would I have to get up and manually change the source from music to TV each time?

Also, I might add a subwoofer but only for TV use, I want to keep my music in pure stereo mode. Could I set it up so the subwoofer was only used when watching TV? Again, I want to be able to do this all from the comfort of my couch ideally, rather than constantly getting up. Just hit a button on the remote, and suddenly Im listening to the TV with the subwoofer in play. Who knows, I might end up using my sub with music as well, I presume this would be just as easy to set up... hopefully there's that sort of flexibility...

In such a situation, if I was listening to music through my stereo, and tried to play the TV, would it still play sound through its own speakers?

So, is that the best way to get good sound from my tv/ps3/xbox, by going

PS3/Xbox/Virgin etc -> TV -> DAC -> Amp -> Speakers?

Sorry so long winded, many thanks, Keyser
