Pioneer PDR609 CD recorder. Able to record on non-consumer discs?

Hi,

I have a Pioneer PDR-609 CD recorder, which I use exclusively to produce copies of my own recorded music for other band members or for archiving old tapes of rehearsals and the like and it's irritating that I've had to use consumer CDs, which are becoming more difficult to find.

Therefore does anyone know whether there is any kind of modification (either menu/ software or even hardware based) that can be made to enable the recorder to recognise standard CDs?

Thanks in advance!

Hi, not sure if this will will work on your player, i had a phillips recorder.

I would put in a consumer cd let it recognise it then pull open the tray

manually then put in a computer cdr and it would record.

Thanks for that Tony. Unfortunately there doesn't appear to be a method of getting the CD tray to open manually- certainly not without risking breaking it.

I've looked into this a bit more and seen that method mentioned elsewhere. I assumed there would be some kind of fix similar to 'de-regionalising' DVD players, but it seems that I may be stuck with using consumer discs.

Ah well, ebay here I come!

What I did with my PDR-609 was to use a CD-RW, make as many copies of it as needed with a PC, wipe the CD-RW and re-use it again in the recorder. There's probably a recyle-able limit on these discs, but I never hit it.

Of course nowadays one can (usually) rip a CD to wav and burn the files directly on the PC, but my PDR-609 stills serves very nicely as a DAC (quite a few digital ins and outs) in my hi-fi stack.
