Denon DM37 or another solution to my problem

Hi all

Hope someone can guide me..

I am currently building a new house and am in the process of finalizing wiring it for speakers etc

I see on a website an offer on refurbished Denon DM37 DAB Micro systems, with the option of buying Denon speakers also…
I would be interested in purchasing this (with speakers) for my Master Bedroom area but have one problem or issue with this..I think !!

I would be seeking to connect a SONOS ZP90 to the Denon and I presume this is done via the Stereo Line In on the rear of the Denon??
Please can you confirm that this is correct….?

Also, I will have a pair of In-ceiling speakers wired in my En-suite bathroom, which is off the bedroom and want to be able to run these speakers back into the Bedroom System (such as the Denon DM37) and then have all the various functions/outputs from the Bedroom system available to be played thru the bathroom Ceiling speakers..
Is it possible to directly connect these additional speakers to the Denon? If not, is there a way of achieving this set-up for my Bedroom/en suite set-up??

Thanks for any help you can give

Michael Gray

Re: Denon DM37 or another solution to my problem

Hi. The Denon DM37 has rear RCA aux inputs, so you could certainly connect the analogue out of the Sonos ZP90 into that. The Denon also has a 3.5mm line in jack (at the front) so that could also be used, with a suitable adapter.

The Denon has only one set of speaker terminals, so would not really be suitable for connecting two sets of speakers to it. Something like the Marantz CR-502 does have the facility for connecting two sets of speakers, and is said to be a very good system. Far more expensive than the DM37, though.

Have you considered an amplifier that allows for 2 pairs of speakers ? With Sonos you don't really need a micro hifi unless you also want a CD player.

Re: Denon DM37 or another solution to my problem

Hi Barock,

Thanks for the reply...
Had a look at the Marantz CR502 and looks to be the business!!….Bit dearer alright....
But I will consider strongly on going with this approach…

One other quick question for you….
If I bought a QED Transmatch Speaker switch and plugged this into the Denon DM37 speaker inputs and then plugged the Denon speakers and the Bathroom Ceiling speakers into the QED Transmatch, would this work or is that not a good work-around ??????
I don’t have a clue on these things, so your opinion is very welcome...

Do some of Sonos players include amplification? Sorry didn't know that. Then I guess just a CD player would be fine.

Hi. The QED transmatch would seem to be a way to solve your problem, though if I'm looking at the right one (5-way switch), it seems to cost more then £100, not to mention lots of fiddly wires to connect. In which case I'd rather save up a bit more and go for the Marantz, or some other CD/amp combo with 2 speaker outputs.

Hey Barock....

Well, I think I have been convinced by you to buy the Marantz CR502 so just to be sure, to be sure..
Will the Sonos ZP90 (the non amped one) definitely connect into this?
I don’t want to go the extra bit on the Marantz and then discover it cannot connect…!!
I presume though it is a matter of connecting the Audio out on the ZP90 to the AUX In on the Marantz??? What kind of cable/connector am I looking for to do this....

thanks
