DAC + transport

Hello all,

I have read the sticky thread above pertaining to DAC's and just have a small query.

In the thread it says that a CD player (CDP) is a transport and a DAC together. Are transports the same as a CDP i.e. the DAC of the CDP isn't used, or are transports completely seperate entities.

Cheers,

James

the latter. a cd transport has no dac. it just spins the disc and reads the digital encoded signal.

the digital (0s and 1s) signal is then passed to a seperate box which decode the digital into an analogue (wave) signal.
