Under-unit kitchen CD player
Since my ex-wife got custody of the Sony under-unit CD player, I'm looking for a suitable replacement. Trouble is I'm having next to no luck.
What I am looking for is a space-saving CD player and radio specifically designed for kitchen use. The Sony item (can't remember the model number) was a fairly simple radio and front loading CD with a wipe clean panel (similar to a microwave ovem's). The whole shebang came with mounting brackets to mount it slung under a wall cupboard so as not to take up valuable real estate on thw work surface.
I can find loads of units for the USA market (all made by General Electric), but I don't want to import. I've seen the flip-down LCD TV / radio on the current Magnet Kitchens TV advert, but this costs nearly £600 (unless you buy a £3K kitchen, then they throw it in free) and doesn't have a CD player. Sony discontinued my missus' unit ages ago (and it took 6 months to get hold of one back then).
Seems like a huge empty sector of the market to me. Can anyone give me any pointers?

OK.....
Since there obviously isn't one anywhere in the UK, what about alternatives? Wall mounted or just plain small?
I thought about streaming music into the kitchen wirelessly from my AV stack (which will shortly have a wireless sender attached to it), but this would be (a) inconvenient and (b) messed up by the microwave - not the best solution for a kitchen.
Somebody help, please!

You could possibly consider the Bose Wave Radio CD - despite what people think about the company this is a stylish, good sounding system.

Holy moly - a reply! I was starting to give up hope.
Bose - hmmm. That's gonna be expensive, isn't it? Still, needs must.
Don't suppose you have a URL for that product do you?
Cheers,

How about getting a step-down transformer and using an in-car CD player? I stayed in a holiday house recently which used a Pioneer car radio and matching speakers, worked really well - bit like they do on boats?

I had considered that but I thought that it would look like, well, a car CD player in a kitchen.
The Sony one I had was really sweet and everyone used to comment on it.
Good idea, though.

Ah but some car HU dont look like CAR HU's Like a factory fit jobbie from and Alpha or BMW!
Dont bother with a BOSE WAVE CD, £400 for not much!
If you are prepared to spend a bit of WONGA:
http://www.bang-olufsen.com/sw692.asp
NICE:
Or this DVD899 & RE7269
few stops down ( £400 ish) http://www.mcs-direct.co.uk/acatalog...Offers_28.html
PUT a pair of 6x9 on top of cupboard or in in ceiling!
This has me thinking big style!!! could make for very sexy kitchen system!

Sony do a couple of wall mountable jobbies in the £800 to £400 price range.
Was kind of hoping for something cheaper.
I'm gobsmacked - seems liks a huge gap in the market here.

Or maybe some of those little Tivoli boxes, they are the business.
One box for mono radio, two for stereo radio, three for CD and radio! They are pretty neat though.

I've spent ages searching, and think I've come up with the product you're after.
It's the SONY ICF-CD513 under counter clock/radio/cd. It's not available in the UK, but it is available from an online company in Germany.
Because we're talking Germany, voltage is the same, CE approved, covered by Sony's European warranty and no worry of import taxes.
The online store is designed for UK customers, as it's available in English and they are happy to ship to UK. You will need to email them to confirm the shipping price, although it looks to be EUR 20.00 (about £14).
Price for SONY ICF-CD513 is EUR 144.00 (about £99)

kitchen stereo
hi,
http://www.digitaldirectuk.com/produ...roduct_id=2632
this gadget may be of interest to you, I'm about to order one myself, can be cheaper elsewhere. currys have the 200 model but this does not feature wall mountable speakers that the 220 has. Sound is very good, power 80wpc.
