iRiver iHP-120

Has anyone got one of these babies?

http://www.iriver.com/product/info.asp?p_name=iHP-120

Been doing a bit of research on portable HD mp3 players and this one seems to be the winner, even beating the iPod.

Had a look at one in the flesh in Tottenham Ct Rd, and it looks mighty fine.

supports Ogg, nice n' light too.

oh, and it has a 20Gb capacity.

comments anyone?

Thanks Trotter

Until you posted that link I did NOT want or even see a need for an MP3 player. Now youv'e gone and cost me £244

But it does look rather nice . Oh well sod the bank manager. I'll be placing an order, but might just wait until after Christmas so I can see how much damage that has done to the wallet.

Just don't go posting any more links for gadgets .

Mark.

www.amazon.co.uk - £244.99 inc VAT and no delivery charge
I decided I couldn't wait until after Christmas, so placed the order. Delivery expected between Christmas and new year though.

I have looked and nobody comes close to amazon uk.

amazon usa are charging £205 but for some reason won't mail it to the uk. average price on tottenham ct rd is £330-350 and I only found 2 shops out of 8 or 9 that stocked it. All shops that had it said they would own it over the ipod.

The only thing that is stopping me getting this is that i had my heart set on a 40gb unit and a few minor gripes.

I emailed iriver (sales) and they said they were going to launch a 40gb version (next year?) but they didn't say when. I have since re-asked customer services to see if they will tell me.

I have found a few (very minor and picky) gripes:

the battery is good for 3000 recharges which apparently = five years. I have read conflicting stories as regards to whether the battery can be replaced, but I will mail iriver to find out. i know things will have moved on in 5 years, but it is such a great piece of kit it would still be handy to have.

I don't think you can record from the radio.

You can use a mic (passive or active) to record gigs and the like but you need a pre-amp as there isn't a decent recording level meter on the unit. what i love though is that you can just then drag and drop this file onto your pc for manipulation and burning , (also as pcs see it as a removable hd files can be transfered to and from the unit on any pc )

just minor gripes, but makes me wonder if they will be addressed on the next model

still kicks ipods arse!!!

I agree about the battery. From what I have read it can NOT be replaced once it has died.

No you can't record direct from the onboard radio.

Recording concerts etc can be done without a pre-amp, its just a little awkward!
Unless you are trying to bootleg a concert there is no reason not to use a pre-amp, or even take a direct feed from the mixing desk.
Of course, none of us would want to bootleg a concert would we
