Budget mp3 CD player or DVD player?

Hi,

I'm after a CD player that plays mp3 CD's for use in my seperates system. After a lot of searching, I thought to myself; Why not just use a DVD player?

Is there a huge difference in sound quality between a dedicated CD player and a DVD player? Has anyone done this before?

This depends on many things most importantly budget. But yes generally a good Cd Player will sound better with an equally matched amp and speakers.

However, a decent DVD Player can also sound pretty good as well depending on other components in the syatem.

It would be useful to know what other componets i.e. amp and speakers you currently own.

Cheers

It's a budget system;

The A.V reviever is a Sony STR-DE375
CD player is a Cambridge Audio CD6
Front speakers are Gale 3030's
Rear's are wharfedale diamond 9.0's
Centre is a Gale centre 10

Not sure there is aproblem with your CDP. I still have a CD5 and works just fine. Fronts and centre and amp may require more attentio.

Is it the case the CD6 wont play mp3's hence the need to change that source.

Cheers

Yes, that is the reason for changing the CD player. It's just so much more convenient having mp3 CD's

Hi,
Have you considered a Teac CD player like this one - https://www.forumhifivisual.co.uk/Hi...AYER_1839.html

I have been looking at it as a potential addition to my system, it plays MP3s I think?

MP3s are not the choice if quality is important TBH.

I'd keep the Cambridge for CD and get an iPod or similar for MP3s

For convenience AND quality some sort of streaming solution (Squeezebox etc) is the way forward.

Personally I have very high bit rate MP3 and Lossless WAVs streaming to my PS3 and am very happy with the results

squeezbox is one of the solution.

If you have a computer or laptop why not get a DAC or just stream the lossless or flac file from there.
