Sponsor my diet ... on behalf of the NSPCC

It's time I got off my backside and did something worthwhile so here goes ... having been off work for 3 months last year with a slipped disc / stress fracture in my lower back I have piled the weight on ... so I came up with a bright idea for a sponsored diet.

I was watching TV the other night and saw this advert again and it has inspired me to raise funds for the NSPCC at the same time. Fellow forum member Woodywizz can provide evidence of my weight loss over the coming months .... the diet started on Tuesday, 15th April 2008 and will run over a number of weeks until Tuesday, 22nd July 2008.

Starting weight is 16st 6lb on 15/4/08 and I plan to lose 25lb over these 14 weeks - which would bring me down to 14st 9lb .... which is 1lb under where I was before I did my back in ....... donations can be made as a one off amount or an amount per lb lost ... please reply on the thread with your generous contributions ...

Please help anyway you can at www.justgiving.com/stevenjackson1 as this will enable the NSPCC to claim GIFT AID from the government for even more benefit to the NSPCC which I am sure you will agree is a worthy cause .... right time for another glass of water ....

Watch the video, visit the website and wish me luck ....

And here's a picture of me on Friday, 11th April 2008 ..... and I know there's going to be a load of gags but that's me on the left with the black/white top on not Martin the winner, whose body is a temple ....

That'll be after I reach my first goal weight .... think it may be a bit much losing nearly 40lbs in 14 weeks.

Still, a good start I think after avoiding a chinese takeaway and pizza (the wife and kids had these and I sat there with a salad ) and I've dragged my backside to the gym twice too ..... that was hard work and I'm hoping that there's no after affects with the workout ....

I've also guaranteed that any pledges of cash will be REFUNDED by me if I don't get down to my goal weight by the time I have stated .... that's put some pressure on me now but I guess I need it ....

I will post a weigh in report every Tuesday morning ... first one tomorrow! GULP!

Re: Sponsor my diet ... on behalf of the NSPCC

Weigh In Report Week One

Well that's one week completed and it wasn't particularly difficult, keeping it going until 22nd July will prove more challenging ..... anyway, the tale of the scales ...

Starting - 16st 6lb
22/4/08 - 15st 13lb - loss of 7lb in week one

A pretty good start. I realise that week one always shows a big loss of fluid retention etc but I am pretty pleased with that. To get to 14st 9lb now leaves 18lb in 13 weeks which is very achievable .... keep those pledges coming and remember that NO cash is payable until I do it ... and if I don't reach my goal weight then I will give you the cash back that you donate to the NSPCC.

Cheers for looking - need more pledges though!

Re: Sponsor my diet ... on behalf of the NSPCC

Weigh In Report Week Two

Two weeks done and dusted and some more progress made. Finding it harder as the days go by, especially so at weekend ..... going out for meals with the family and sitting there with pasta / salads / diet coke instead of a massive mixed grill and a few beers ... anyway, the weigh in report ...

Starting - 16st 6lb
22/4/08 - 15st 13lb - loss of 7lb in week one
29/4/08 - 15st 9lb - loss of 4lb - running total 11lbs ...

I am very happy with that. Twelve weeks left and exactly one stone (14lbs) left which is now very, very achievable ..... the hard bit is keeping going so any pledges of cash & support will be very welcome ....

Cheers for looking - need more pledges though!

Re: Sponsor my diet ... on behalf of the NSPCC

Weigh In Report Week Three

Now this is getting difficult, especially with Bank Holiday weekends where everything seems to revolve around food / beer if people want to have a good time. Went away to Chester on Saturday night, had friends round all day Sunday / night and then took the kids out yesterday. Also, managed to get to the gym on Thursday and Bank Hol Monday so overall, not too bad ....

Starting - 16st 6lb
22/4/08 - 15st 13lb - loss of 7lb in week one
29/4/08 - 15st 9lb - loss of 4lb - running total 11lbs ...
6/5/08 - 15st 8lb - loss of 1lb - running total 12lbs

Eleven weeks left and 13lbs left to lose ..... achievable but it is getting harder. Does anyone have any advice as to whether this is normal .... I haven't cheated much at all and have been to the gym more than once .... suppose I can't expect to lose 2/3 lb every week.

More donations / incentives of cash to the NSPCC will be more than welcome.

Re: Sponsor my diet ... on behalf of the NSPCC

very normal - a standard longish term weight loss should be 1-2lbs a week.

First few weeks is mainly water loss etc from you body but longer term, aim for 1lb a week - sounds slow and boring but works and doesn't get you fed up quickly.

And don't forget going to the gym, will build muscle tone, which weighs more than the fat you're burning away.

Thanks for the responses chaps - losing 1lb a week does sound boring but you're both right and my target is still within easy reach. The hardest thing is the keeping going day in day out .... now that the better weather is coming (I hope) the long afternoons in the garden with the barbeque and beer are upon us.

You doing a sterling job abbeygoo

I started my diet again (with a goal of 17lbs loss). Shifted 7lbs then managed to put on 8lbs in one day by eating 2 large pizzas
It was rather disheartening.

Bizarre.

My wife has gone to that meeting tonight!!

The reasons I don't go .....

1. It costs £5.50 per week to be weighed and 'motivated'
2. My wife and her friend have been going since New Year and have lost a total of 9lb between them (and all that cash)
3. I only ever see fat people going in so does it really work?
4. I motivate myself don't need anyone else to do it for me ....

Besides that, Weight Watchers (Fat Busters) is great!

Weigh In Report week four

Another difficult week as everything seems to revolve around food and drink at weekends, especially when it comes to enjoying yourself .... BBQs, meals out, kids parties with adults drinking etc etc .... here we go ...

Starting - 16st 6lb
22/4/08 - 15st 13lb - loss of 7lb in week one
29/4/08 - 15st 9lb - loss of 4lb - running total 11lbs ...
6/5/08 - 15st 8lb - loss of 1lb - running total 12lbs
13/5/08 - 15st 7lb - loss of another 1lb - total lost now 13lbs

So, overall not a bad result, especially as I have lost something every week. With 10 weeks to go, I am now 12lb away from my target weight of 14st 9lb which is slightly more than a 1lb a week, so extra work needed this week I think!

Thanks to everyone who has donated so far, anymore would be hugely appreciated!

Steve

Weigh In Report Week Five

This is getting a touch repetitive, however I remember Booyaka some weeks back saying aim for 1lb per week, even though its boring ... so that's what I've done today and reached a milestone as now lost ONE STONE

Starting - 16st 6lb
22/4/08 - 15st 13lb - loss of 7lb in week one
29/4/08 - 15st 9lb - loss of 4lb - running total 11lbs ...
6/5/08 - 15st 8lb - loss of 1lb - running total 12lbs
13/5/08 - 15st 7lb - loss of another 1lb - running total 13lbs
20/5/08 - 15st 6lb - another 1lb - total now 14lbs ONE STONE

9 weeks left in the diet and I have 11lb left to lose .... so at 1lb per week I would narrowly miss out .... got to keep plodding along. Weekend seems to be the hardest time being round the house and of course, wanting to drink beer and have a takeaway. I used to have at least one or two per week but so far I haven't had any takeaway chinese / indian / pizza since I started - that's a real achievement for me.

Any more pledges of cash for the NSPCC will be very much appreciated - read the first post for more info ... cheers everyone .... typing this report is inspiration itself, even if nobody responds!

Cheers.

Good on you. If I had any money right now I'd donate ( hubby out of work and I'm off on the sick ) but I wanted to encourage you to keep up the good work. You have done so well so far.

Good job nobody was sponsoring me ! You'd be broke ! I have lost 11 stone in 1 1/2 years !! (see my website - link in my siggie)

11 stone .......

WOW!

Thanks for your kind words ... think we have over £105 pledged now ... really inspiring doing this as it means I can't just sack it all and go and eat a kebab!

Off to play football tonight, first time for a good while and a test for the back. Sure I'm up for it though with one stone lighter!
