I usually manage around 2.25 in 10 mins with walking for the first minute! I'll try the 12 minuite challenge next time just to confirm 12 mins does not have to include warm up ?

Set myself a new challenge now. Will be running the local parkrun 5km every Saturday and will be aiming to break 20 mins. Used to be able to run 10km in under 40mins but I'm not as fit as I used to be so it might take me a few weeks to get back to them sort of times!

It's do able though!

I was only 40 meters away. I probably would have done it on a treadmill without the extra 10 seconds because I wouldn't of had the elements, turning sharply to go down other roads or changes in elevation.

My legs were not in the best shape for the 2k I had left to get home after the 3k though

I might do this for a pre weights warm up tonight. I quite like really pushing the treadmill in short bursts.

I did 2.77 km in 12 mins tonight on the treadmill.

Not bad considering 3 or 4 months ago I was near 20 stone and couldn't run 5 minutes without dying.

After reading this thread I decided to add this to my gym trips. I usually jogged for 20mins at a comfortable pace at start of gym session but came to think it wasn't doing much for my fitness ( not pushing hard enough )

Back in August 3rd ran for 10 mins at 12kph then a final 2mins at 14kph which gave me a distance of 2.47km

Since then have increased the pace slightly each week so currently running 10 mins at 13.7kph and final 2 mins at 15kph which gives a distance of 2.78km

Over the month I have def noticed a big improvement in my aerobic fitness and even though getting faster im not ready for collapsing like I was at the start. Hopefully in next few weeks will break the 3km barrier

Gave this a go tonight to see how I'd get on after the injury. Managed 2.92km on the treadmill. Really happy because I still had a bit left in the tank (went on to do 5km in 22 mins)

I did this challenge and was ecstatic to break 3k and ended up doing 3.08km in total. Ran the first 2k at a constant 15km/h then gradually increased the speed over the last 4 minutes. The fastest speed I got up to was 17.5km/h

I have been running for about 3 and a half years and I am doing the London marathon on Sunday with the legend that is abbeygoo. We mainly do 10k runs and our next one is the iconic Manchester 10k on May 26th. It's a superb race and an even better booze up afterwards.

Struggles this year with injuries but my current PBs (in official events) is a 21 min 5km and a 43min 10km. Got my first half of the year in 2 weeks but realistically going for a 1hr50 sort of time.

I did the Blackpool half marathon two weeks ago in 1 hour 46 minutes and 5 seconds which is a personal best. My bests for 5 & 10k are 20.56 and 46.11 respectively but these were both set on the treadmill which is where I do most of my training. I will go sub 20 for 5k this year but sub 40 for the 10k is something I am not to sure I can achieve.

London marathon done in 5 hours & 8 minutes after struggling with stomach cramps from 6 miles onwards. Pleased to have completed the race but very disappointed with the time.

These things happen unfortunately. You should still be very proud of getting around 26.2 miles!!

I'm going to give the 12 minute run a go tonight on the streets (running to the gym). Feeling fairly confident that tonight is the night I'll break 3km (or 1.88 miles).

I saw a mention of 10s being allowed for treadmill runners, is that the case?
So, distance run in 12:10?

Not that people trying this outside doen't have to contend with things like wind or inclines

For treadmills, I'd say get it up to speed and then start the 12 minutes

I have this really annoying problem where if I run at a pace much faster than about 8 minutes a mile for a prolonged period, one of my knees gives way. Seems to usually be the left one. Basically the whole leg feels sore and if I don't stop running the pain becomes really severe.

I can run for an hour at a fairly leisurely pace eg 8.5 minutes a mile but it seems to be when I try to beat my 10k time that one of my knees just get sore.

I have to add that I never stretch nor do I really warm up.
