Noise cancelling for Long flight

Hi everybody

I'm flying to California soon, in a plane, and I want some decent noise cancelling headphones for sub £100.

I have a cheapo pair of Panasonic ones but they don't hide the sound of the air conditioning on airliners. Ones that cancel out the sound of screaming sprogs would be a bonus.

Any recommendations?

Anyway,

I use my Sennheiser CX300 or Ultimate Ears Super.Fi 3's when flying, both block external noise enough to play at safe listening volumes. I only need to turn my iPod up very slightly higher than I would usually have it.

The Sennheiser HD280's are supposed to be great for passive noise cancelling.

Re: Noise cancelling headphones for long flight

In-ear sound isolating earphones that fit well are indeed great for flying.

Noise cancelling headphones do work very well for cutting out the constant low frequency noise created by aircraft engines, so if you'll mainly be using them for flying then they are worth it. The over the ear design can also be more comfortable than in-ear earphones for long haul flights.

If you are looking for full size noise cancelling headphones below are a couple of recommendations:

Audio-Technica ATH-ANC7 - Excellent noise cancelling electronics (actually the same as the Goldring NS1000). Robust build quality. Headphone continues to work when batteries are dead.

Goldring NS1000 - Build quality is strong, but not quite as good as the Audio-Technica (joints can creak a bit). Excellent noise cancelling electronics. Headphone continues to work when batteries are dead.

These two headphones are very similar in many respects. The photos of the NS1000 suggest the ear cups are bigger than the ANC7, but this is misleading as they are actually about the same size.

Another option is custom moulds for in-ear earphones. They block out noise VERY well and are comfortable to wear for long periods.
