Astro A40 'vs' JVC SU DH1 - Winner is.....

Hi.

I am really looking just for the Mix Amp on the A40's (I think) or the JVC SU DH1.

Looking to get surround sound for late night gaming/movies whilst the kids are getting their zzzzzzz's.

Gonna use Sennheiser HD 600's with my PS3/360 via fibre optic and Wii via the red/white.

Does anybody know which are the best to go for?

Here's a few of my thoughts on things I need to know before I can go ahead:-

- Good Base required - I suppose this is dependent on the headphones?

- Can I use a headphone splitter and use only one mix amp and attatch 2 sets of headphones? - May need to get a cheaper set for the wife though!

- If I can't do the headphone splitter, does that mean I'll need 2 'mix amps' and use a fibre optic splitter to both amps so I can then attatch a set of headphones to each. Will the sound quality be affected much?

- Does anybody have any advice on import and how much tax etc I'll need to pay aswell as handling charges? Been to the websites but can't work it out at all

- Can the A40's use the usb to power them on ALL the PS3, 360 and Wii or can an AC adapter be used like you can on the JVC?

- What AC adapter is needed for the JVC?

- Would it be worth to just purchase the Tritton axPRO5.1 headphones or the Medusa's Home Edition (read the medusa didn't have a very good Base).

I think that's it? Anything else?

All help and input would be well appreciated.

Thanks.

HD600 will need need a serious amp, they are power hungry. Can't answer all you other questions, but USB powered amps will not fire up those phones anywhere near their potential. As regards splitter, this will be less of an issue than running HD600 off a games consoles as a source - huge quality mismatch, that's where you'll bottleneck SQ.

But if you're using them for gaming, then it may not matter anyway.

I'd look at easier to drive phones, that don't need an amp. AD700 for one...
