I've had the Sennheiser HD650 headphones for a number of years and they are great for sound detail but now I'm looking for something a little more hardcore. By that I mean, able to handle heavy loads of bass and film explosions as the Sennheisers simply crumple up under pressure. The BeyerDynamic DT770 Pro model was recommended to me a while back but I'm not too sure about them. Can anybody recommend some powerful headphones? I think I'd prefer the closed type.

I'm wondering if the sound pressure level figures have any relation to what I'm looking for? Say for example, the Sennheisers have a quoted rating of 103 dB, would a pair of headphones with a rating of 140 db SPL be significantly more powerful? The BeyerDynamic DT770 Pro is quoted at 96 dB so if this was the case that model would seem like a step back.
