CX300II vs CX400II

Hi i'm looking for a half decent pair of earphones around 30 quid. i found the sennheiser cx300 markII and cx400 markII on play for 30 and 35 quid respectively. both seem decent and fit the bill but dont know if there is much difference between the 2. can anyone tell me how they both sound? (they also have the cx500 for 30 quid but not fab reviews).
Any help appreciated. Thanks

Re: CX300II vs CX400II

Hi Tosh

What HiFi has given the cx300 mk2 a glowing write up in this months issue but later on the magazine they recommend the cx300 mk1 as these are vailable for about £18 from Play. I don't know much about the cx400 but just because it is more expensive doesn't always mean it's better. Headphones are one of the things you can't get a demo to see if you like them.

I have the cx300 mk1's and I am really pleased with them and use them with both my minidisc player and Ipod with the eq set to flat.

Re: CX300II vs CX400II

i decided to go for the mark1 cx300 as they are a bit cheaper but might consider getting the s-jays that are on offer for something a bit different.

Sennheiser CX300 II v CX400 II

The Sennheiser CX300 II is actually the same internally as the old CX400, so it's definitely an upgrade from the old CX300.

There isn't really much else at around the £30 mark that competes well with the CX300 II. It's what you get at that price point.

The next step up is the £40 - £60 price point. Recommendations at that point are:

Sennheiser CX400 II - Signature Sennheiser warm sound (plenty of bass, but not that well defined). Non-invasive in-ear fit. Very similar to the old CX500.

Shure SE110 - Well balanced sound. Does require really pushing into the ear to get the best sound. Foam ear tips seal well and are comfortable (once you get used to them).

Ultimate Ears Super.fi 3 - Light on bass response. Fit system is excellent once you get the hang of it (over the ear wiring). Very accurate, clear sound.

Re: CX300II vs CX400II

iv been using my cx300ii's for a few days now and they are superb for 29.99

the build quality is better than the original ones and these seems to have a good bass level from the off, im not a sounds expert at all, but im very happy with the headphones.

That happened to me . I contacted Sennheiser and they said providing I still have my receipt then they will replace them free of charge . Luckily I still had my receipt Oh by the way, mine were 20months old. There is a 2 yr guarentee on them
