Looking for some closed cans

Hi,

I've had a three pairs of PX200s now and the last 2 pairs really didn't last two long. I need a pair of closed headphones as I listen a lot on the train and don't want others to have to listen to me (or have their dull phone conversations bleed through to me ) and I want cans really. Just not keen on the idea of in-ear phones.

They will get thrown around a bit and used a lot and will need to be portable. Money not the biggest issue. If someone wants to suggest £100 pair or a £60 pair or things a £120 are great value then I'd consider it.

Any ideas?

Re: Looking for some closed cans

For use on the train, these are not fashionable at all- but do everything else you asked for.

Sony V6's!

MDR-V6 that is. Oldschool!

Probably about £50 now, made of steel and iron and stone so wont break, very good at isolating stuff. Low impedance, something like 50ohms so can use with portable players no problem, and most importantly superb sound quality. Used a lot in recording studios, radio presenters, etc. because they have vey good isolation and dont leak sound. Very old model though, not sure where you can still get them, probably can on ebay or an amzon seller. You will absolutely love them, and a bargain also.

BUT you will look like an old man on the train wearing them (dont know if this is a problem or not!) becasue they are not very stylish, very 80's. Personally I think they look awesome, have stickers proudly saying 'for digital' (!), but I wouldnt wear mine on a train.

Hope this helps!

Many thanks Sir. No interest in style at all.

I'm all about da' sound.

Edit: I see you did an Amazon review as well. Nice.

2nd edit: Purchase made. I'm easily persuaded.

Oh my goodness. They arrived this morning. I'm going to get beaten up on the street for wearing these.

Sound good though.

Re: Looking for some closed cans

Oh yes, they are pretty old looking, I cant think of any look that can pull these off. At least noone is going to try and steal them though! If only they knew what we know....(that they sound great!)

I hope you enjoy the sound quality anyway, I thought they were superb for the price, I tried a fair few more expensive ones but settled on these in the end. I didn't like the HD595 because of the open back design I could hear everything, although the sound quality was probably much better, but without a headphone amp who can tell....I digress....

I might have mentioned on that amazon review, about the pads. If you put them on your ears but dont play anything you can hear the pads rustling around if you press them into your head. You get this from all headphones except the really soft padded ones, sennheisers.

Anyway, you can buy new pads that are supposed to cure this because they are not made out of whatever the crap sony make their pads out of. Beayerdynamics (?) 250's pads fit perfectly im told, velour I think.

Although ive yet to buy any, doesnt bother me unless I listen to classical music and try to read a book in bed!

Hope you like them anyway
