Dedicated CD players worth purchasing for basic systems w/HD595's?

Hi, a quick one here about getting the most out of my newish Sennheiser HD595s. Any advice would be much appreciated

I have a relatively basic Sony AV Receiver STR-K870P which has done the job for me on a basic level for a few years. It'll be after university's over before I can consider splashing out on some proper equipment (ideally a Marantz SR5003 and better speakers etc to boot).
I bought some Sennheiser HD595 recently for under £100, seeing them as amazing sound per pound compared with a speaker system, and have found them much better driven through my receiver than through anything else. Recently a friend came home with one of those huge hi-fi systems from the early 90s with a CD changer, tapes, vinyl etc for only a few pounds (envy ) and I noticed that my CDs sounded significantly better through it than when played on my DVD player into my reciever.
This made me think, with price an obvious concern, is it worth investing in a dedicated CD player to connect to my reciever? Or is my kit too basic at the moment for that to yield good results? The CD player that would aesthetically match my reciever from Sony is about £80, but there are some less aesthetically pleasing black older models floating around ebay for a fair bit less. Anyone got any ideas what's for the best?
