are there headphones that also keep tv speakers on?

Odd question, but friend of mine wants to be able to plug in headphones for his missus as she is hard of hearing, but also wants to be able to hear and control tv volume himself, obviously usual phono output cuts off tv volume by design can you get any with this odd function?

cheers

Re: are there headphones that also keep tv speakers on?

If the tv has a headphone socket, plugging phones in will cut off the tv speakers. If the tv has audio out phono sockets the signal from from these sockets should not be cut off and could be fed to a separate amp which may have a headphone socket and volume control.

Not sure if this would work but it may be worth a go

3.5mm Jack Socket to 2 Phono/RCA plugs Adapter Cable

(not sure if those red/white connectors are correct)

thanks, it is for an Hitachi pd7200 no amp. Will see if this tv has audio out, that could be a solution.

Re: are there headphones that also keep tv speakers on?

All depends on the TV. Some TVs will cutout the internal speakers when headphones are connected, but some TVs can have headphones aswell as internal speakers.
Usually if the TV allows both headphones/internal speaker there will be a seperate volume control for the Headphones in the sound options menu.
I would look for a set of wireless headphones which can accept either the output from the headphone socket and/or a line i/p (fixed audio signal output from phono sockets or scart socket)

Hope this helps

thanks, there is an idea, can you get wireless headphones that somehow have a remote device connected to scart, for audio output. No doubt that would not switch off tv volume?

cheers
