Wireless Headphones Security

Hi,

I have a question about how reliable wireless headphones security is...

I've been picking up music from my next door neighbours house with ONLY my wireless headphones. (I.E NO TRANSMITTER)

Am i connecting to their transmitter with the same frequency?

If so then can they potentially listen to anything i'm listening to?

I thought that this technology would be more secure...is there anyway to protect yourself from this?

Thanks in advance

An interesting point. Shame no one else commented.

I've also picked up TV on my wireless headphones out of nowhere. The other day i twiddled my tuning knob and picked up a conversation between my neighbours as they had a baby monitor in their house that was on.

There is absoutely no security with these systems. What is annoying is that none of the products mention this and none of the reviews mention this. I emailed Sennheiser to get their view on this and unsurprisingly got no reply. So basically yes, your neighbours can listen to what you are listening to. (and bear in mind that these things have a VERY long reach).

In order to work, AFAIK, they have to operate on a certain frequency - otherwise they can intefere with radio signals and such.

It's only music. unless you've got you bank details encoded your music it's not a problem.

Found the same with Sennheiser wireless headphones. Despite having completely different models, the technology is all the same.. and when my flatmate at the time decided to buy a set of wireless headphones, he was able to listen in on my headphones at will.

I only had channel 1 & 2 but as he had a channel 3, he could listen to mine, but I could never listen to his

Needless to say I switched to wired phones not long after

This applies with some wireless headphones, but not to Bluetooth-based headphones. The Bluetooth link is point to point and the channel is encrypted so it is impossible to listen to someone else's audio stream.
