Exclamation Whats the best Dolby Headphone available today?

Hi Guyz,

I want to buy a good Dolby Headphone that is able to create the best 5.1 surround experience possible today? I know about SE-DSR3000c by pioneer but has any other company made a product that could rival this one?

Also I'd like to know how good these really are? is the model i mentioned above a Japan make or chinese?

Thanks guyz..

Dolby Headphone kit is hard to come by. Check out the "official dolby headphone" thread for information. The only other unit that seems to be available for import is the JVC SUDH1 which is battery operated and I believe does not come with a headphone never mind a wireless one. The best reviewed units were the Pioneers and the HD1500 from Philips which I have. As regards how good they are, I love mine, you're not fooled into believing you are hearing a full 5.1 system but the sense of immersion and space is brilliant. I think the results can vary from individual to individual because of our unique sense of hearing.

I spotted this on e-bay. Its the older (very well reviewed) Pioneer model that hasn't been used. It's in the UK so customs duty would not be a problem. It needs a voltage convertor but that would be just a few quid extra.

If you really really want the best and money is no object, I give you .................

I haven't being keeping up to date on dolby headphone, I didn't even know about the SE-DRS3000C until I read your post. I don't know where it was built, but I assume Pioneer would have good quality control in place wherever it was built. As far as I know people have had to import stuff as they can't get it in the UK. Audiocubes is looking for $500 for the DRS3000 and $400 for the DIR800, and $130 for the JVC. Factor in shipping and customs and it gets quite pricey. I reckon the auction one is your best bet.

Re: Whats the best Dolby Headphone available today?

Are you looking for something portable? I ask because just about the best implementation of Dolby Headphone I've come across was on the Xonar D2 PCI soundcard, which will work with any set of headphones if you add an amp (and many without). Sounds absolutely magical when I've tried it with Sennheiser HD580s, HD600s or Goldring NS1000s. Not quite so impressive with cheaper Goldring DR50, DR100 or Creative Aurvana Live, as these cheaper ones all sounded slightly artificial to me.

You'd need a pretty decent receiver or native Dolby Headphone set to match what the Xonar can do with an amp and a set of decent standard headphones.

Re: Whats the best Dolby Headphone available today?

hi
i bought the pioneer dir 3000c dolby headphones from audio cubes in
january they sound fantastic except for the odd pop & click as far as i know
they are from japan and the instruction manual is all in japanese ,they are not available in the uk , as for customs charges i was stung to the tune of £75
which made the headphones expensive. they are perfect for movies but i am
having a problem using them with my ps3 when gaming every so often the
sound will crackle for a second then cut out for a few seconds i think the
signals from the controller and the headphones must be clashing but if you
order them remember if they are faulty or develope a fault you will have to
ship them back to japan and you wont get much change out of £100
good luck

Re: Whats the best Dolby Headphone available today?

Thank you guyz i was just about to order 3000 one but now i think i'll stick to 800c which is infrared and has almost every single review positive.

Whats the best headphone under 100 pounds to use with 800c base unit as an extra headset.
