Good ear buds?

Looking for an upgrade to my Sennheiser MX500s to use with my new Sony NWZ-S639F. After ear buds, not the in-ear type that are so popular now, as I need to hear people calling on me in work with the volume low.

Have been using the MX500s for many years now (though on the 4th or 5th pair now due to rain damage in wet Scotland!) and have been largely happy with them but looking for something a bit better.

I also spike my hair so not after an overhead pair (I know, ) but noticed the iGrados are the neckband type and I love my SR60s. Heard they can be a bit uncomfortable though?

Mods - could you change the title to "Good ear buds?" please?

Re: Good in-ear (non-canal) headphones?

I'm with you mate, i have been using a pair of Yuin PK-2's to ease my daily commute which have been awesome but since last night i get sound out of only one ear so i am in the hunt for a new pair.

Anyone recommend some decent in ear headphones, not bothered about price...more interested in the sonics (but not if they need an amp to power them, ala the Yuin PK-1's).

Re: Good in-ear (non-canal) headphones?

I just bought a pair of Sennheiser MX-85's - sound good, reasonable base and a nice upgrade from my old and borken MX75's. I use these for cycling so I can hear road traffic, but when on the underground I tend to use in-ear Shures.

Re: Good in-ear (non-canal) headphones?

PoisonJam: You mentioned the Grado iGrado as you like the SR60. If the lack of noise isolation is no problem then in my opinion you can't do better for your money. They have the same drivers as the SR60, so sound very similar.

I regularly pickup my iGrados in preference to in-ear earphones for my walk to and from work. I find them very comfortable, although do need to re-adjust them every so often to give my ears a rest.
