Altec Lansing Customer Service

I have a pair of Altec Lansing 805 headphones, bought off the classifieds on this very forum.

Whilst they may not suit some purists they are great for connecting to my PC to play WoW! lol!

Unfortunately, I tripped over the cable yesterday and the 3.5mm jack plug ripped off the end (PC end)!

Luckily the cable isn't captive and plugs in at both the headphone and PC ends - it is the kind with an inline volme control and on/off switch. So I called Altec Lansing to ask how much it would be for a replacement cable.

I was gobsmacked when the guy told me "Oh don't worry sir, there's no charge we will just send one out to you!!!"

GREAT customer service - Thought it was most certainly worth a mention!

Well their great customer service wants to rip you off when you buy from them. They had the FX5051 speakers on their web site for a special of $93 dollars shipping included, in stock and ship with in 72 hours. I ordered a set 12/24/08. I received an email 3 days later that they were back ordered even though they stayed on the website for that price for another week and still shipping in 72 hours. Then on 1/19/09 I discovered they cancelled my order. They didn't even notify me, I found out while I was checking my order status. I emailed them about it, their reply was the item is not available, but I could go to their website and order something else... like the same speakers for $249.95 that they also say is in stock and will ship in 72 hours. I bet I could get them if I ordered them... R-I-P O-F-F

I'm afraid that you aren't comparing apples to apples. Altec Lansing in the USA are, essentially, a completely different company to the Altec Lansing here in the UK.

Here in the UK you CAN'T buy directly from Altec Lansing, only from a retailer.

The logo is completely different and, most importantly, the product line-up is totally different!! They don't even list the particular headphones I own (or anything similar).

The USA Altec Lansing are owned by Plantronics and the UK/European Altec Lansing are owned by Eurotech.

Basically, they just both use the "Altec Lansing" brand.
