Question (Sony MDR-DS[3]000) Headphones - reviews/buying in the UK

Hello all This seems like a reputable place with people who know what they're talking about, no harm in asking I guess

I'd like to get some new headphones and I need your collective expertise!

My trusty Sony MDR-DS3000 headphones have just died on me (specifically, the right headphone is stuck on minimum (no) volume) after around two years of heavy use.

I really like the DS3000's, I would be more than happy to get another pair but the prices seem to have skyrocketed in the last few years and I have no idea where to buy in the UK. I remember buying my old pair for around £130, now they seem to be £180

I currently have an optical switch which takes three sources and outputs via one optical cable, which I plug straight in to my current Sony base-station. I use the headphones for TV and gaming but mostly for listening to music.

Wireless headphones are preferred, but not necessary. The main thing is being able to use my optical cable. I have a budget of no more than £200 (lower band of say, £100).

To sum up, can you recommend headphones with the following criteria:
  • Budget of £100-£200(max),
  • Could be Sony MDR-DS[3+]000 series,
  • Ability to input via optical (even if this is with other equipment),
  • Can buy in/in to the UK.
If you need any other information let me know and I'll post it up.

Any responses greatly appreciated,
John

Re: (Sony MDR-DS[3]000) Headphones - reviews/buying in the UK

This isn't a bump as such, I found another possible solution that might be of some help to others.

It seems Sony do replacement headphones The model ID is the same as the base station but with an IF where the DS would be, for example: Sony MDR-IF3000.

I'd have to ship it in from the US, but I'm sure eBay will have some for a reasonable price. I'm still considering buying a new set of headphones, but chances are they'll be a better model of these.
