Best way to connect ipod classic too amp?

Hi,

I have a 120gb Ipod classic, what is the best way to connect to a Pioneer SE-DIR800C for the best sound?

The Pioneer has optical and coax inputs as well as stereo white and red rca inputs. I think the best connection would be to get a dock and connect through the stereo inputs rarther than through the headphone slot on the Ipod.

Hope someone can put me in the right direction.

Re: Best way to connect ipod classic too amp?

I am using this Escient iPod dock that has a digital output. Far superior in my opinion. You can then add a DAC, etc.
I am also using a Philips TSU9600 touchpanel so I can browse my mysic (CD covers, artists, etc) on the panel itself.

If you want to do it on the cheap, get a minijack to RCA cable and connect the ipod from it's headphone output into the amp. Apple has a docking station that charges the iPod too. Marantz does one as well.

A dock is a nice option

A line out dock is also another consideration. One end has a dock connector. Other end has a mini termination

ipod line out dock - Google Search

Two sellers to get you started, but there are loads:
ALO Audio
Qables | High Quality Custom Made Qables

I myself have Qables one

The point of both is that it uses the dock connector to bypass the iPod's own internal dac and headphone out, and you can connect to a nice amp and whatnot

The line-out dock bypasses the headphone out and the internal amp, but not the DAC. To bypass the DAC you'll need a Wadia iTransport.

Steven.
Get the Wadia, amazing bit of kit, only down side is that it takes around 10s before you get sound out. It has to do some handshaking to get the digital signal out. You could also get a Wadia CD player if you feeling flush too, around £10k with D/A and pre amp functions built in. Think the iPod dock is around £250...

Dupe....
