Astro A40 - Gaming Headphones

Hey, astro just started international shipping.

Got my self a pair (waited a long time), and WOW blown away.

Just wondering if anyone else has a pair, if so, how do they compare to normal headphones (non gaming-centric) for the same price (about £250).

thanks,

Tayla 13

Re: Astro A40 - Gaming Headphones

I think the headphones themselves compare best to the Sennheiser HD555.

I considered getting the mixamp but shipping wasn't available at the time so the Victor SU-DH1 was my only option. The Mixamp has the advantage of being able to balance out game audio and voice chat independently which would be nice.

Can you breakdown the cost of everything including shipping, customs duty etc.

£250 to me don't sound like a great deal for some 555s with a mic attached :/

I have a similar setup (minus no.3) to the Astro A40's for a lot less than £250...

1. Sennheiser HD555 - £55 from Amazon
2. Victor (JVC) SU-DH1 DH surround adapter - £87 from Bluetin
3. Plantronics GameCom X30 Earset - £17 from Ebay
4. AC Adapter for SU-DH1 - £5 from Ebay

Total £164
  1. The HD 555's sound better than Astro A40 headset
  2. The A40 headset mic setup is tidier
  3. The A40 Mixamp has the advantage of balancing in-game audio and voice chat.
  4. The SU-DH1 is better for films. It has DH1 (best for watching films), DH2 (best for games) and DH3 (this ones crap, too much reverb). The A40 Mixamp only has DH2

The best part of the Astro's is the Mixamp. It amazes me how many people are unaware of what it brings to the table. It's just a shame it's like £140 for it.

Re: Astro A40 - Gaming Headphones

Astro's are really one of best gaming headsets you can buy on the market, purchased these when they first came out and paid not much over £100. Initially they shipped overseas but stopped and glad I got them while we had a favourable exchange rate. I don't think I could justify spending £240 on these now, but if you want the best ... Everything about them scream quality, the build, the presentation (you feel like you having a quality product) and most importantly the sound and the way amp separates microphone and game noise.

Re: Astro A40 - Gaming Headphones

the A40's and mixamp would be a sweet setup. seems like the best combo if you want the mic integrated in the headset. wrapping a mic around your neck just dont seem right.
