Budget IEM's needed
HI guys...
I've had a search on the forums and the net, but just managed to confuse myself...
My CX300's have just packed in, given that I'm a poor student I can probably stretch to £30 for some headphones; keep in mind that they will be used on my Ipod which has music of varying quality on it.
Any help would be much appreciated.
Anth

Re: Budget IEM's needed
OK, narrowed it down... I think...
- JVC air cushions
- Goldring GX200
- Creative EP630
and possibly Sound Magic PL30's, If these were on sale in the Uk I'd order them for sure, but I need earpohes asap as mine have packed in, so....
So can anyone actually help me?

Go for the Goldrings. Really into these now, they have beded in really well. I've come from the CX300's as well. Bass is just as good with better mid and highs.

Re: Budget IEM's needed
Cheers, mate...
I'm starting to gravitate towards these, however, I've read several comments which bring their reliability into question; can anybody comment on the reliability of the GX200'S?
Also any comments on the JVC's would be useful - everything I've found seems to comment about the aesthetics, but nothing about the sounds.
If I had the money I'd buy some Super Fi 5 or westone UM1, but I'm a stingy student, so I only have money for beer.... or nothing at the moment.

Re: Budget IEM's needed
Suppose it's how you treat them. I've had my CX300's for 3 years now and they are still going strong. Just I like the GX200's better now. Remember your getting a lot of headphones for your money, Play still have them for £25 which are still a really good price.

Re: Budget IEM's needed
Keep a lookout on play.com for the Shure SE110 there were 2 occasions where they were selling at only £17.99 only for 24 hours on both occasions. Too bad you missed them 3 weeks ago.

Ahhhhh.... If they went up I'd definitely buy them over the others, I love the way they look and they are meant to be very good.
Both of the CX300 earphones have no packed in, so had to get some v cheap replacement ones - exspect which were £5 from HMV;oh lord, they're bloody appauling..... needed some to tide me over til I decide on some permanent replacements....
Thanks for that though, mate... I'll keep a look out for the shures.
I'm definitely going to buy the Sound Magics unless anybody has anything negative to say about them?
but with my student loans going in soon I think I'll still buy another pair of quality IEM's from England, as if the sound magics break I can't just hand them in at the store - which is in hong kong. lol

Depends what you like, if your used to the CX300's then I don't think the 110's are going to be for you. The are lacking bass for me quite a lot.

Oh... I'm looking for a bit of bass too... these stand in ones have terrible highs and lows, come to think of it the mids are appalling too lol
The highs are terrible, symbols are actually painful to my ears lol

Re: Budget IEM's needed
I have the Shure SE110 brought them last year in New York back when the pound was strong for a $100 (£50 back then).
I felt the bass was just right, but yeah the CX300 have an exaggerated bass bit too much for my liking. Best thing about Shures are you'll get a good fit, therefore better isolation. If you can get your hands on them for under £20 I'd gamble on them. Try them out and if you don't like them you'd still get more than you originally paid for, if sold on eBay even second hand.

I feel for you..
Then I would stay away, coming from CX300 to the 110's I noticed a big difference in the bass, I just couldn't used to lack of bass and went back to CX300's. Plus I found the 110's are a bit heavy.
The GX200's are a lot better. Been using them for a couple of months now, haven't once gone back to my trusty CX300's.

Re: Budget IEM's needed
I noticed that the bass on my cx300's was a little bloaty, but I learnt to love it TBH.
I'm definitely going to get the sound magics as if I don't try them I'll be wondering, possibly buy the gx 200's and have a try, if the shures go on sale I'll buy a few pairs and make a tidy profit regardless, plus if I like them I'll keep them.
This earphone thing is nearly tougher than buying a TV... ahhhh technology

Sounds like a good idea. Nothing is easy nowa days when buying anything electrical.
