Up to £100 to upgrade from Sony MDR-V500s

Good evening

I am looking at upgrading my headphones as the Sony MDR-V500s that I have (and that have lasted me for years) now have peely ear cushions.

I've between £75 and £100 to spend on a wired solution, on or over the ear, mainly to be used with my iPhone 3G and PSP.

I mostly listen to metal, hard rock and the occasional mellower track. Generally speaking I fiddle with equalisers to leave the mid as standard but to boost bass and treble frequencies as that is my preferred sound.

I have looked at Grado SR80s but I need 'phones that don't annoy others when I crank them up while I am travelling by train etc (from reviews I have read they don't seem to do this).

So, with all of that in mind, does anybody have any suggestions as to what will provide me with a significantly better listening experience?

I've looked at AKG, Audio Technica, Denon, Grado and Sony, but am now thoroughly confused and from my interwibble searches have found a general lack of good reviews on most affordable models (aside from the Grado SR80s).

Very many thanks in advance for your help!

I'm in the same position as yourself. I was in my local Hi-Fi shop today trialing the Grados and I have to say I found the SR60s more comfortable and the sound difference to be negligible. One thing to keep in mind I guess

Hi,

I recently bought a pair of Grado SR80's. Fantastic sound after burning in, but I wouldn't recommend for train journeys. Due to the fact that, as you pointed out, they are an open headset and do leak out the music.

Nobody have any suitable suggestions other than the Grado's?

Whilst I am tempted by them, I am fully aware of how annoying hearing other peoples music from their headphones can be and would very much prefer to avoid it if possible.

ATH-M50 vs ATH-ANC7 vs K271 MkII... help!

Title and a half!

I have done a bit of research and am hoping that somebody may be able to recommend one of these sets of 'phones over the other... or recommend something at same price point that performs significantly better if I have managed to pick 3 turds!

They are all closed, and the ANC7s are noise cancelling, but it is mostly sound quality that I am concerned about and the ability to run from portable devices without the use of an amp.

Hope somebody has more of a clue than I do ^_^

Thanks all
