Want some headphones but havn't a clue

I want some headphones to use when in my bedroom, for watching movies late at night or maybe even sometimes for when playing games. I would imagine the headphones just plug into to the back of the tv for this sort of thing?. I'm after the surround sound effect.

Main purpose for the headphones is to connect to my pc to listen to my music. I like pop, r&b and rap. I don't have any special sound card in my pc but for when I listen to rap I like to hear the beats the bass etc but with more pop I like to hear the lyrics more clearer. So I'd be adjusting the EQ depending on the genre. Assume they just plug into the front of the pc were my current earphones go, the green port.

Don't mind spending around £60, any recommendations are fine though. Would prob like to connect them to my ipods as well but not for outside use just in the house.

Thanks

Sennheiser 555 or 595, check out goldring dr100 or dr150.

Also alessandro MS-1. Very different and worse for games, but detailed and punchy sounding compared to teh more relaxed sound and comfortable senn or goldring.

Re: Want some headphones but havn't a clue

I actually tried the sennheiser hd 555s round a friends house without realising which made me make this topic lol.

Problems:

1st problem is I hear because of the 6.5mm jack, the 3.5 mm adapter is too big to plug/squeeze into speakers headphone output? not sure where I'm supposed to plug them when I get them. Can't I just plug them into the free port at the front of my pc where I plug in my earphones?

2nd Problem is that these are open headphones, I would prob prefer I assume the oposite it called closed headphones? also been reading about the bass is underemphasised

Re: Want some headphones but havn't a clue

I listen to music on my computer with Sennheiser HD 25-SP 11 Pro, they are supra aural ie they sit on the ear

They have a closed back that is very effective in keeping noise out and no one can hear what you are listening to !

Very good sound quality from computer, TV, portable CD player etc

They are a closed dynamic headphone designed for DJ use in high noise environments

Very tough, every part is replaceable if it's ever damaged by clumsy friends
Two metre cord with 3.5mm plug, will plug straight into your TV, PC etc

Highly recommended, they cost me $165- Australian dollars so they should be around 60 English pounds

For your first point, you can get 6.5mm to 3.5mm adapters quite cheaply from audio shops or general electrical retailers like Maplins. If you do, make sure you get a stereo adapter as some are mono.

The HD555's come with a 6.5mm -> 3.5mm adapter.

Re: Want some headphones but havn't a clue

Hi Brendetta,

Have you bought anything yet ?

If not this is another headphone that may suit you, they are very popular on the 'Head-Fi' forum

Alessandro MS-1

Description

The Alessandro MS-1 is a fantastic sounding headphone for rock music or any music where the listener would like a more up front and dynamic presentation. The MS-1 manages to sound energetic without being harsh or fatiguing, "music series" is spot on! They are lightweight open headphones that are easily driven from portable devices.

One of our favourite headphones under $200 the MS-1 is hard to beat!
This model terminates in a 3.5mm plug.
Package Contents

1/4" to 3.5mm adaptor
Specifications

* Model number: MS-1
* Weight: 198g
* Impedance: 32 ohms
* Open/Closed: Open
* Transducer type: Dynamic
* Ear Coupling: Supraaural
* Frequency response: 20 - 22Khz
* Cable length: 2.5m

That is $200- in Australian dollars, should be around 80 English pounds !

I nearly bought these but I wanted closed back to keep out noise but just for home use these would be ideal
