Headphone woes....

Hi, just purchased a UMC LCD TV for my dad who is hearing impaired. After much deliberation and actually ringing the technical help line we find there is no headphone jack which precludes him using headphones.

I have read a couple of threads that give advice on how to get around this issue however I dont understand some of what has been said.

On the rear of the set there are 2 SCART inputs. 2 HDMI inputs. 1 VGA socket. 1 S-VIDEO socket. YPbPr sockets. AUDIO X 2 sockets. CI Port and an RF socket.

The technical helpline operator wasn't much use, she said you could change a scart from input to output to allow connection of home cinema equipment but she didnt know how to do it.

Any ideas? One thought I did have was buying some sort of amp for the audio output on the back of his HDD/DVD box but not sure wether this would work or what to buy.

Re: Headphone woes....

Hello and welcome to the forums.

If the audio sockets are audio out then a headphone amp will do the trick. Indeed you can get them specifically for TV.

Have a look at item 380074615806 on ebay for example.

Re: Headphone woes....

I dont think you need to do anything to get the scart to output, you just need to put an adapter in like this that you could probably get off ebay etc.

and then use a lead that you can connect the headphones to. Its a bit of a an awkward way to do it I suppose but it probably works. You can buy these connection kits with all the necessaary cables in discount shops quite cheap.

It is usually only one of the scart sockets that has the output though and I think it is usually the main fully wired scart 1, so you will lose use of that scart for connecting equipment and have to use the other scart number 2 which probably isn't wired for RGB and slightly lower quality.

Re: Headphone woes....

oops I got that the wrong way round,

you can still use the main scart 1 to connect your PVR etc using RGB to your LCD and then plug the scart output adapter into the second scart to connect your headphones. Your tv could be different but i think that is the standard way.
