| Re: Audio Technica ESW10JPN arrived!!!
these are the ATH-ESW10JPN and are from Japan. Last year audio technica decided to make a genuine high-end portable headphone, the ESW9 which is a woody. The ESW9 is the lighter coloured headphone pictured above. The ESW9 was very well received by pretty much everyone who bought them. They had a LUSCIOUS mid-range, and had a DEEP, pronounced bass, and looked cool as hell.
There were slight criticisms of the ESW9, in terms of the bass perhaps being a bit middy for all it's quantity, and slightly affecting the detail of the other parts of the spectrum. So now audio technica have just come out with this limited edition update of the ESW9, this being the ESW10JPN. There are little over a thousand being produced. Supposedly 1000 for Japan, only FIFTY for all of Europe, and then some for other parts of Asia presumably. The wooden housing is now black cherry would instead, and has a hand-made laquered finish. The driver is completely new, and is improved in ALL respects over the ESW9.
LFC-SL, I have posted my thoguht over in head-fi on the ESW10JPN so far out of the box and after about 35 hours burn in so far (I am starscream). Trust me really are an improvement over the ESW9, and I love the ESW9. I think someone on the thread said it edges his HD650 on detail. They really have great detail. The smoothness is gorgeous. How they got it sounding this smooth paired with so much detail is incredible for this relatively small enclosure. The bass is a vast improvement over the ESW9. Far more balanced with the rest of the sound and never interferes. Highs are crisp and natural. One of the most apparent improvements is the increased soundstage.
