Audio Technica ESW10JPN arrived!!!

received these yesterday morning, have put about 30 hours on them now and they are quite a bit better overall already. They are better in every respect than the previous ESW9. I am SO happy with these, definitely my portable of choice now.

Re: Audio Technica ESW10JPN arrived!!!

Better how?

I am running the ESW9 straight headphone out on the 4G Nano. Sweet music to my ears

I would love to buy them, but £150-£200 better SQ I doubt it, but in a few years they will be like gold-dust as AT made these babies limited edition...

Re: Audio Technica ESW10JPN arrived!!!

these are the ATH-ESW10JPN and are from Japan. Last year audio technica decided to make a genuine high-end portable headphone, the ESW9 which is a woody. The ESW9 is the lighter coloured headphone pictured above. The ESW9 was very well received by pretty much everyone who bought them. They had a LUSCIOUS mid-range, and had a DEEP, pronounced bass, and looked cool as hell.

There were slight criticisms of the ESW9, in terms of the bass perhaps being a bit middy for all it's quantity, and slightly affecting the detail of the other parts of the spectrum. So now audio technica have just come out with this limited edition update of the ESW9, this being the ESW10JPN. There are little over a thousand being produced. Supposedly 1000 for Japan, only FIFTY for all of Europe, and then some for other parts of Asia presumably. The wooden housing is now black cherry would instead, and has a hand-made laquered finish. The driver is completely new, and is improved in ALL respects over the ESW9.

LFC-SL, I have posted my thoguht over in head-fi on the ESW10JPN so far out of the box and after about 35 hours burn in so far (I am starscream). Trust me really are an improvement over the ESW9, and I love the ESW9. I think someone on the thread said it edges his HD650 on detail. They really have great detail. The smoothness is gorgeous. How they got it sounding this smooth paired with so much detail is incredible for this relatively small enclosure. The bass is a vast improvement over the ESW9. Far more balanced with the rest of the sound and never interferes. Highs are crisp and natural. One of the most apparent improvements is the increased soundstage.

Re: Audio Technica ESW10JPN arrived!!!

Alas I cannot afford it or justify the price tag. Good to hear of the SQ improvements though and a wider sound stage. Methinks they may yet release another non-limited ed wood headphone next year...

mhcq2002, save buying directly from Audio-Technica Europe, you have to import. I got my ESW9's from bluetin, but you can also buy from pricejapan or audicubes. Beware of import fees and a weakening £

Re: Audio Technica ESW10JPN arrived!!!

I do not know if its the economy, but prices for the ESW9 and ESW10 have gone up on import sites

ESW10 is of course limited edition and getting a lot of love but harder to justify with each passing day as it is going into the price territory of some very good headphones, albeit not [as] portable

Hi Maggotbrain if you are selling your ESW9's now let me know, I might be interested in buying them how much did you end up paying for the ESW10's?

Re: Audio Technica ESW10JPN arrived!!!

sorry, I am not selling my ESW9 online, a friend of mine is wanting to buy them off me, and I may not even be willing to part with them to be honest as I really do like them, however I don't know when I'd use them considering the ESW10JPN is considerably better.

I pre-ordered my ESW10JPN from audiocubes within an hour of them being on the website so they cost $600+shipping from them to UK. The customs fee was around £70 which wasn't fun. My previous two orders from audiocubes (Japan) for ESW9 and Denon D5000 both managed to get to me with no customs charge. So got lucky two times out of three.
