Question Westone UM1 headphone owners advice needed

I have been doing some research into replacing the phones for my Creative Zen 16gb (mp3: 320 cbr – haven’t got time to re-rip entire cd collection to lossless/vbr). Thanks to previous threads on here I reckon I’m nearly sold on the Westone UM1s but need some help with a couple of things:

1. They’re rated at 40 Hz -16 kHz

Does it matter that many of the other phones I’ve looked at are rated 20 Hz – 20 kHz, including Goldring GX200 at half the price or so (using GX200 as an example as they’re within at my original budget)? Should I be concerned about their lack of LF response? I mainly listen to 70s, folk, blues, hard rock & classical with the odd bit of house thrown in.

They are available on ebay HERE for about £70 but I’m a little suspicious of the low feedback & the plethora of fakes that get sold through ebay. Shurely, excuse the pun, that deal is too good to be true? If so then:

2. Are they really worth it at £90 from Amazon?

I’m risking the other half doing a bobbit on me if I spend that sort of cash on ‘earphones’. I’m doubling my original budget & can’t really justify the outlay unless I’m convinced they’re going to deliver. They’re not the most stylish but I’ve sort of set my heart on hoping that the sound quality makes that an irrelevance.

Help please.

Re: Westone UM1 headphone owners advice needed

Got mine for just over £70 from the USA.

THey are the most comfortable IEMs I have used. The SQ is very good and it is easy to get a seal. I have heard better IEMs but they have mainly been more expensive ones.

Great phones until I got them stuck in a boot of the car then flew abroad leaving them to be dragged around London by said car But they are very robust and even 1 of the sides survived although the other was wasted,
