New headphones needed for gym...what to get?

Hi Guys

I need some new headphones for my ipod. To be used exclusively at the gym.

I would like something small and have around £70.00 to spend. Anything for less is a bonus of course

Can someone recommend anything suitable?

They are replacing some Sennhesier PX100's which sounded fine to me but I want something in-ear this time around

Thanks

I use Sennheisers too, but tried the Bose headphones (in ear, cans and on ear versions - I'm not sure of the model numbers) the other day. I want expecting a huge difference in sound quality, but was pleasently surprised in the clarity of sound, bass reproduction and initial comfort. Admittedly, I only wore each pair for about 5 mins each, so cant comment on wearing them for a time or during a gym session.

I also dont know how they compare to Shures or Etymotic which also have models in your price range (check amazon, they seem to have good prices at the moment)

Re: New headphones needed for gym...what to get?

I find that my biggest problem with in-ear headphones in the gym is sweat running into my ear and ruining the vacuum created between the headphone and the ear. This may come down to just choosing the right bud for the headphone, though I've not found anything that works well against this yet.

The spongy buds: The moment you touch them, they get saturated and you can barely hear the audio until they're completely dried out again.

The rubber buds: Fine until the vacuum is broken at which point it's hard to get them to stick in again even if you do dry them off.

Unfortunately all I've done is offer more problems and no solutions, but I would like to find a way around this and definitely want to stick with the in-ear option so that the music isn't competing with background noise and damaging my hearing because of the volume I have to set it at to compete.

Have you considered a sweatband for your head?

Back on topic, I've found a cheap pair of Sennheiser in ear 'phones (circa £20)to be more than adequate for purpose. It's music to exercise to, so subtlety of reproduction isn't exactly a high priority. [Having said that, I'd sooner exercise in silence, and only use an mp3 player to drown out the utterly vacuous dance 'music' channel on satellite TV that is perpetually playing at my gym]. I can't claim I'm a big fan of in ear 'phones for 'serious' listening, and the ones I use for this purpose are considerably more expensive and the traditional over the ear type.
