Talking Grado RS-2's - WOW! ... but what else?

Listened to some Grado RS-2's today using a Pro-Ject HB II SE (Arcam Solo for source) WOW!

I've been into AV kit so long that I had forgotten how good music can sound

Problem is I'm now itching to go back and buy them so I can come home and re-listen to my CD's
Unfortunately, common sense has reared its head and told me listen to some other kit, but that's where I'm stumped (to be honest I didn't set out to listen to headphones so was caught un-awares!) The Senn HD 650's seem well regarded along with the Graham Slee ...but what else should I have a listen too?

Source will be my trusty Laserdisc player (Pio CLD-925) until I pluck up the courage to buy a Logitech Transporter!

Thanks in advance for any pointers

Re: Grado RS-2's - WOW! ... but what else?

Well it all depends on your budget and music tastes of course..

Though I often hear good things about:

Obviously the Sennheiser 600/650s
Alessandro MS-Pro (tweaked RS-2 but about half the price here!)
Denon AH-D2000 (or the 5000/7000 but you'll probably need to import and many enthusiasts believe they desperately need some mods to get the most out of them)
Beyer-Dynamic DT770 - 80 ohm version
AKG 701
Then there's the whole range of IEMs (Shure/Etymotic/Westone etc) but I'm guessing you want either supra/circum-aural

There are dedicated headphone forums out there but their userbase is mostly American making it difficult to pick up cheap stuff sometimes.

Hope that helps

Thanks for the replies/suggestions.

I've signed up to a dedicated headphone forum in the hope of getting a bit more feedback.

Cheers

There is also the Stax Omega 2 'you may see them going somewhere soon', There's also the HE90 and HE60 (sennheiser) and Sony R10, etc..... These are better than the Grado RS1 but the price is
