£40 Head/earphones for out and about use

Hi guys,

Just wondered whats the best sound quality headphones or earphones at £40 for out and about use?

Seen the CX500 at £39.99 on Play.com but wondered if there was better out there?

Thanks

Re: £40 Head/earphones for out and about use

I HIGHLY recommend the Mylarone X3i for just under £30, stunning set of earphones.

Re: £40 Head/earphones for out and about use

Naive question, but looking at the CX500 and the Sony EX90 on ebay, there seems to be a huge number of items on sale very cheap (£12 for the Sony's) - is there a huge bootleg market on these that I need to be careful of, or have I just struck lucky?

Thanks

A lot of counterfeit products about, I would personally never buy that cheap from marketplace, only through Amazon direct.

Couldnt agree anymore. They are amazing for just £30. Way way better than any others below £80 including the Senn CX300 which is crap compared with it

Re: £40 Head/earphones for out and about use

Hmmm. I'll have to try these Mylarone things if ever i need a replacement to the CX300. Mind you, a bit sceptical about the claim that they make the CX300 sound "crap". I listen to HD600s in the house, and I gotta say, I think the CX300s are bloody good value considering their price. You could just about make a case for saying stuff like the HD600 makes it sound crap, but so it should for £150, but I'm having a slightly hard time believing a £30 set of earbuds can sound anywhere near the likes of the HD600, but hey I could be wrong.

Re: £40 Head/earphones for out and about use

Do it, you will be surprised. I dunno if i got fake CX400 (for £25 I hope not), but the X3i make these sound crap, let alone the CX300..

Sometimes I prefer listening to my portable rig for the bassness, not really a basshead but these X3i are the closest thing ive heard to having a sub on your head. Just been listenig to the new Pendulum album with awe (and I hate D&B) I really can't believe how deep they go as stated in another thread. 650s don't even come close to them in the bottom range.

Don't like using them walking through town though as I have a permanent smile on my face and it looks pretty stupid..

Re: £40 Head/earphones for out and about use

I wouldn't say the X3i makes the CX300 sound crap, I've enjoyed the CX300 for over a year and think they are good value earphones.

I prefer the X3i, as they are a bit more detailed and the bass is tighter with more punch (after a few hours of use).

If there is one area, for me, where the X3i makes the CX300 sound 'crap' it is fast percussion. Here, the CX300's boomy bass really starts to sound muddy and can spoil the rhythms.

I totally agree. Muddy is the right word to use for the CX300. It is a great earphone and from the price you can get them for (off powersellers on e bay), they are amazing. But if i was just going to buy £30 CX300 off amazon, i would just buy the x3i

Seems a more realistic view to me. I mean my HD600 makes the CX300 sound crap, but then it did cost 6x more. If a £30 set of earbuds were as good I would just sell the HD600s, but I very much doubt that will be the case

I dont doubt the X3i are better I just havent heard them. Incidentally I dont suffer boomy bass with the CX300 because my portable device is already fairly bass light.

Yeah the X3 is not made anymore, so if you buy the X3 they will send you X3i. Have you seen the colour choices? State that on the paypal instructions

Re: £40 Head/earphones for out and about use

When is the new Cod coming out?

Red/Blue: http://i188.photobucket.com/albums/z.../P1010969a.jpg

Silver (BKS Jaben call it) http://www.anythingbutipod.com/archi...i-xbi-main.jpg

I think they have had problems with the ruby ones. i dont think many people buy them so they have made less. Anyway there look like: http://i199.photobucket.com/albums/a...RubyEd_x3i.jpg
