sennheiser HD595 or HD600

Hi,

i am looking for some new headphone for gaming, music, and dvds and i am also thinking of getting a JVC/Victor SU-DH1 as well to go with them but i am unsure which headphones to get out of the HD595 or the HD600.

i did have some 595's on order today but i have found some 600's for £140 which seem a good price and to be honest i would rather pay £55 more if the 600's are worth it.

i know that the 600's should be used with an amp but will i still need one if i use them with the SU-DH1 ?

also if i was to go for an amp with the 600's what would be a good choice for a budget price of around £70.

Tony

good choice on the 600's. I have a pair.. they sound much nicer than the 595's. In fact the 580's sound nicer than the 595's.

I use my HD600's in my humble home recording studio and wouldn't use anything else!

You may be able to find used X-Cans around this sort of price, but there are a number of chinese imports around this level or less.

These, and the HD650 do improve as the quality of the amp goes up....it may be worth considering this when taking price into account.

Where did you find them for £140 if I may ask? Most places I have seen they around the £180 mark

Re: sennheiser HD595 or HD600

I really like the HD600. I've not heard the 595, but I actually prefer the 600 to their bigger brothers (the 650).

Definitely worth paying for the quality of those.

Yeah, I've just bought a pair for £170 but I'd still like to know where the OP managed to get them for £140. Unless that was second hand maybe?

They also seem to have gone up in price recently as they were going for about £150 not so long ago?

Re: sennheiser HD595 or HD600

Shameless plug but I have a X-canV2 for sale on hififorsale forum. I used the HD600/X-CanV2 combo and this Class A SET valve amp extracts the best sound out of the HD600's that I have heard (IMO).

Re: sennheiser HD595 or HD600

Well the phones turned up. Impressed out of the box I must say. Mid range is much cleaner and clearer than my HD485s, the bass is nice, clean and controlled unlike the 485s and it does'nt colour the whole range of the phones, not as much of it though, a bit less err body I would say. However I think I'll take the tradeoff. They leak like hell though at 70dB on my amps range its like having a portable CD player thumping away in the back ground, you can't' put them on, you'd lose your ear drums. The 485s even though they are open are no where near as ummm leaky....

Will see if there any differences once they've been run for a few hours. Like the sound at the moment so the 'burning' in period won't be very long if any I suspect.......

Re: sennheiser HD595 or HD600

I doubt if you'll get a burn in effect, but you'll certainly grow accustomed to their good qualities.

Very honest presentation, very low bass and a very open sound for a can.

Look after them, the parts prices are very high! A headband and earpads cost the earth so try and avoid falling asleep in them and damaging them, don't be duped into buying an 'Audiophile' lead for them they really offer no improvement!

Controversial newbie.

Re: sennheiser HD595 or HD600

Hi im about to purchase the 595's and just wondered how much noise they actually let out, i know they are open and sound abit tinny for people on the outside, but is it as bad as all the everyone says,
Im just gonna be using them at home anyway,
or for the same price would anyone recomend anything else,

Cheers
