DAC/Headphone amp recommendations

Hi

Streamer: Logitch squeexebox classic (not duet)
Headphones: sennheiser HD595

I have been told on another thread that that setup is not sufficient and should invest in either:

1. Headphone amp
2. DAC with headphone amp

Thoughts?

Could you please recoomend me some that wont break the bank, and if you know where to buy them in the UK that would be an added bonus.

Thanks

Re: DAC/Headphone amp recommendations

You certainly can buy DAC/headphone amps combined. At the lower end you could check out the Beresford 7510, and further up is the Benchmark DAC1. Both have a dry and "detailed" style of presentation.
I've read that the 7510 doesn't have a great headphone amp, but I never tried it with the one I owned.

An option potentially worth considering is something like a s/h Rega Ear. I'm told that they were voiced to work best with Sennheiser cans, so should match well, and they can be found for under £100.

Re: DAC/Headphone amp recommendations

This thread would probably do much better in the headphones section.

I will move it there and leave a re-direct here to it.

On the original topic.....a headphone amp can make it possible to extract the best from a decent set of headphones, but not all headphone amps are equal (to paraphrase Orwell).

There are a vast number available currently, from very cheap amps at £50 or less, right up to some costing well over £1k.

The amp suggested above is fine and would do a very good job,but you should also consider the MF X-Cans,and several others.

There are a few quite reasonably priced DACs around as listed above, and the US based Headroom range also includes a few DAC/amp combos.
