Headphones for gaming?

Helllllllllo, I'm looking to get myself a pair of headphones mainly for gaming (but they will be used for movies and music as well, probably)

I looked at the Sennheiser HD-497 and read some reviews, they seem good enough (especially for my 45£ budget) - But I thought I'd ask here before I rush off to buy the first thing I see

So, any suggestions? perhaps a different pair?

Re: Headphones for gaming?

Have you considered 5.1 Headphones, its what I'm looking at getting for my gaming and movies, but due to my PC not having a 5.1 soundcard it seems kinda expensive, anyway heres some decent priced ones: http://amazon.co.uk/s/ref=nb_ss_w_h_...phones&x=0&y=0

Re: Headphones for gaming?

I was thinking about 5.1 headphones, but then I thought theres no point because it's headphones I've got the surround for that.

I don't think open or closed matters really, I'm looking for a comfortable set that I can keep on for long periods (3-4 hours at a time.... ) and around a 50-60 pound budget.

I was also wondering if theres any chance of having a mic with them that would work for a 360 voice chat?

Re: Headphones for gaming?

1) Don't bother with 5.1 headphones.

2) I use Sennheiser HD595 for gaming and they are absolutely brilliant, producing crystal clear sound. good distortion free bass and very accurate sound positioning.

3) Make sure you have a decent soundcard (not onboard), regardless of any headphone you use. I would recommend the creative ones, as they have 3d sound emulation in headphones. Take my word, you will never watch a film without it again using headphones.
