Re: recommend Me Some Headphones

Hi,

I think the problem here is the budget

There aren't that many Phones produced by the major manufacturers at that price level.

You could perhaps start by looking at the cheaper end Sennheisers - you'll not go far wrong with Senns.

You don't really give enough detail about your requirements to give firm recommendations,

but you might also look at iGrados, if it's more of a 'mobile' type you're after.

Re: recommend Me Some Headphones

As mentioned above Sennheiser headphones are a safe bet.

Sennheiser CX300 earphones have strong bass response (in my opinion rather too much) so they would be worth a look. If you can afford to increase your budget upto £50 then the Ultimate Ears Super.fi 3 Studio earphones are a big improvement on the CX300's and have a much more balanced sound.

If you prefer on ear headphones and can live with open back headphones then the Grado iGrado is only just over budget and possibly the best sounding streetstyle headphones available. They really do sound truly amazing for the money.

Sound like a noob here. But are the Sennheiser CX300 and Ultimate Ears Super.fi 3 Studio 'ear canal headphones'?

Re: recommend Me Some Headphones

The CX300's are under you budget at approx £25. The iGrado's are also within budget at about £35. The Ultimate Ears are well over budget at about £55.

The CX300 and Ultimate Ears are both ear canal headphones (also known as in-ear sound isolating earphones). See the link for a description of this type of earphone with information on the benefits and drawbacks.

The Sennheiser CX55's sound quite similar to the CX300's, but with nicer styling and slightly better fit for most ears.

Re: recommend Me Some Headphones

just bought some senns px100, cost me £17 from play.com, very good value, the sound is much more balanced than any out the box headphones I own and they candle handle bass very well.

I use them for my laptop and mp3 player and work well with both, plus comfy, look good and practical fold design with case , for £17 ... what more can i say !!

I was going to say, CX300 if you need isolation...

If they are for home use go with the Koss Porta Pro - I have the CX's but I can tell you the Porta Pro are a lot better than the CX300 if you dont need isolation.

True. Enjoy the CX300, they are good for the cash, good fun. Make sure you get a good seal or you wont get good bass.

Re: recommend Me Some Headphones

The standard iPod headphones are really not that good. They are ear bud style earphones, which don't fit many ears that well and also don't provide much sound isolation. The problem with the lack of ear canal seal is that you have to turn up the volume to drown out external sounds.

I agree about the PX100's. They are very nice sounding headphones if you don't like in-ear headphones. They are open back, so the sound isolation is also fairly poor compared to in ear sound isolating earphones.

Re: recommend Me Some Headphones

The CX300's came today. I trided the differnt size earphones. How are they ment to go into your ear? I just can't get it right! The medium size just hangs in my ear like normal headphones. And the small ones go in a bit but not properly, I can't hear the bass. If i push the headphones in i can hear the bass. But when i let go they just come back out and i can't hear any bass.

Is it my ears are they too small? How deep are they ment to go into your ear?

Can someone help me?

Hi Usama,

I believe the common verdict is the iPod headphones are rubbish to use a technical term So I'm sure you will notice a huge difference with the CX300, the sound will be more detailed at least and most probably brighter sounding.

I recently bought some Beyerdynamic SX-10 to test out as I wasn't too sure about ear canal type headphones. They are sports type headphones which have a solid band which goes around the back of the neck to support the phones - http://www.beyerdynamic.co.uk/beyerp..._portable.html.

Also another recommended headphone in your price range are the closed back "over the head" Senheisser PX-200's (http://www.sennheiser.co.uk/uk/icm.nsf/root/05207) which also get good acclaim from users on this site. It all depends what you are after and which type of phones you prefer.

Best of luck and hope you enjoy the difference the new phones will make

Dave K.

CX300 are way better.

Have you tried the larger rubber bits? You need to get a good seal to get good bass. You may have to experiment for a while.

In any case, the EX71 have the same rubber tips AFAIK as the CX300 so it wouldnt help to get those instead.

If you really cant get them to work then I'd suggest some of the lower range Shures with their foam tips, but I think you need to experiment first. Dont give up just yet.

Sometimes i find i need to push the lower part of the earbud in, i.e. push the cable end of the bud into your ear, as though you were aiming it inside your ear.... hope that makes sense?

Re: recommend Me Some Headphones

With the bigger tips, you could try pulling your ears at the top of the ear to "stretch" your earhole to make insertion easier, then once they are in let go and let your ear close around it. That might make it more comfortable. I have no doubt you will get used to it in time, it does feel weird at first
