Sony MDR-NC11A Noise Canceling

Just a heads up if anyone is interested but Sainsbury's have these for £19.99 which seemed a good buy for noise cancelling phones.

I bought a pair and they do get rid of the drone of the fan from my computer. This is the only low noise I can test them on at the moment but for £20 I thought they were worth a blast.

B*gger! I paid 80 quid for a set of them less than a year ago... ;-(

They actually don't seem quite as good as the older NC10s - they produce a bit more hiss and seem to cancel a narrower range of frequencies.

I know the same thing always happens to me or something newer and better comes out. But hey we would never buy anything if we kept waiting.

I not usually buy Seinheisser but thought for the price of these they were worth the blast. It will be interesting to see what they are like on an aeroplane which is primarily the noise I would hope to see some cancelling action.

Have you used yours in a plane?

Re: Sony MDR-NC11A Noise Canceling

Not actually had to fly anywhere since I bought them, so no chance to test them on a plane yet. That said, the NC10s were superb on a plane, which is why I bought the NC11s - I wanted a spare set, as I wouldn't get on a plane without noise-cancellation any more....

Okay, thanks. I have been after a noise cancelling pair for quite a while after sitting in a noisy part of the plane for 9 hours last year. I have been using CX300s which cut so much of the noise out and kept thinking about the Bose or larger Seinheisser nc headphones but the price puts me off.

I think most of in-ear phones offer better sound quality and they still can block out the sound so well. I'll choose the in-ear phone over noise canceling.

The NC11 (and the older NC10) are in-ear phones anyway. In-ear phones do a good job of blocking high frequencies, but are less good at getting rid of low droning noises such as jet engines. Noise cancelling is good at getting rid of low frequencies, but doesn't work too well on highs. The combination of the two is very effective.
