I have a Quad 34/306 pre- and power amp set up, which doesn't have a headphone socket.

What are my options if I want to add a headphone socket?

a) Is there anything I can buy off-the-shelf to add a headphone output?

or

b) Can I build my own adaptor as a project?

or

c) Could I simply connect the headphones to the line out of the Quad pre-amp?

Line out won't work. That's just a line level signal.

Maybe think of a headphone amp you could connect to the headphone outputs. I am pretty sure the output needs to be amplified at the right level for the headphones.

I hadn't read your reply properly, myself !

What I meant was - with the right phones, the output from the pre may be enough to drive them directly, but I doubt it.
