Grado SR80 bass response

Does anyone else find the SR 80s have weedy bass response or is it just my pair? I have compared them with other headphones and they just seem to lack in LF.

Re: Grado SR80 bass response

Mine are not that good either, but I have never heard a "good" bass response with headphones.

The Sennheiser PXC450 bass response is unbelievably good.

Re: Grado SR80 bass response

i wouldn't choose the Grado's for bass! i've had the SR60's the SR125's and i have the iGrado's (best of the bunch) but they never floated my boat when it came to bass.

Re: Grado SR80 bass response

Me too, my SR80 are the most dissapointing headphone i've ever bought (see my 'How many headphones' thread) and i love rock and prog, a style they are meant to love.

I have bought two more headphones since (Senn HD650 and Equation RP-21) My HD650 are not yet run in, but the Equations are a real eye opener. Build is a bit 'plasticy' and the writing on the ear capsules looks very cheap, but the sound is astonishing for the price with deep bass.

Just a pity they look a bit cheap and are too big to use outdoors, but for £45.00 what more could you ask for. IMHO miles better than my Grados in every respect. Yes even the build. My SR80 with thin plastic headband, lose poles that endlessly move and rough earpads (all very cheap) i expected far more for my money, yes they are overpriced here in the UK compared to the US I know, oh and the silver writing on my SR80 is now looking very tatty. yet these are not cheap cans.

Re: Grado SR80 bass response

I am just coming into the whole headphone thing and I agree: The GR-80's are lacking in bass definition. Got the HD595's in t he end, for the same price, and I am happy. For now. I'll probably wind up getting something daft in a couple of months, now the can bug has bit.

Re: Grado SR80 bass response

Grado's are a joke in terms of build quality had my sr60 a few days and the metal holder came out of the right earphone just through general use.
Glad I sold them now awaiting goldring dr150's I will never buy grado's again they are so overrated no soundstage just good mids and highs.

i've yet to hear a bad word against the goldrings....they seem to be a good choice.

i'd have to agree. i'd rather have the Equation Audio RP21's rather than the SR60's. that's not to say i don't like Grado's i do..sort of, but the RP21's give far more bang for your buck.

Re: Grado SR80 bass response

I bought some today and I'm over the moon with the bass. I'm used to a pair of HD212 pros too which are crazy bass bins.

Bass on the SR80's goes deep, seems very well controlled though can be a little dry with some recordings. It's not overwelming like some headphones I've tried but I think they're very well balanced.

I also read they're supposed to be uncomfortable, but if anything they're more comfortable than most other's I've worn.

Very pleased with them, I can't even imagine how good the more expensive models must be!
