Hey everybody!

Wonder if anyone can help. Basically, Ive heard that the Grado SR 60 and Sennheiser hd series are by far the best phones to get for a reasonable sum of money. As Im looking to change from sennheiser cx300 in-ear to some proper headphones, I want them!

The only thing is, due to their openess, are they rendered useless outdoors? As really, Im giong to be using them 85% outdoors- like walking down the street, around college etc. Maybe on the train if pos. Now if closed heaphones would be way better then I guess I should get them, although im drawn to the idea of getting these phones that everyone is raving about...

Definite no no? Would closed be better? And if so, which are the best closed type?

First of all, let me hit you with a few more recommendations. The Alessandro MS-1's are basically a customize version of the the SR80's and will cost you less (shipping included) than the SR60's will (UK Price).

if you want a bit more bass (and pace) get the equation audio RP21's adn don't let the £45 price tag put you off. I paid over double that, but they retail for around £75 (although you shouldn't pay that)

as to your question, i think you're right, they wouldn't be my first 2 recommendations for using outside. what you need is a pair of headphones with a good seal.

without the need for noise cancelling technology, the best headphones i've ever had for blocking out ambient noise, are the Sennheiser HD25-1's. you could try the HD25 headphones, but i've never tried them so i can't comment on them.

put either the Sennheiser HD25 or HD25-1's would be my main choice.

Ok maybe a bit too strong but as their are so many members with good experience on headphones etc they have trusty, detailed reviews

Only thing is arnt the Alessandro MS-1's open, if theyre just a modded version of Grado's? So wouldnt they leak too much sound to use outside?

The Sennheiser 25's are like 130 pounds, which is a bit too much really. But the equation ones might be good....

Anyone other suggestions from anyone?

Furthermore, what about something like the etymotic er 6. How would that compare to big headphones for sound quality? Ive heard in ear ones such as that would be better for both isolation and sound quality, but i cant see how such a small thing could have better sound quality, bass for example... Is it true?

For £130 i know you want headphones but you may as well buy custom made earphones like livewires or super.fi etc. The only thing is that you have to get impressions made to be sent off to the company
