Question 5.1 Wireless Headphones

Hi All, newbie after some advise. I've started to set myself up with some home theatre gear. Bought a Denon AVR3800 and a set of M&K's which are brilliant (wanted small speakers so as not to upset the wife). However, despite my consideration towards a state of harmony in the household I'm still unable to set up all of the M&K's as "there would be too many wires!!!!" So to maintain peace I'm looking to go for some 5.1 headphones. I've read some great reviews on this site and am close to selecting a set of Pioneer cans from Audiocubes based on the reviews. I am however still undecided between the DIR2000C's and the DIR800CII's. Has anyone seen a comparison between the two? Also read some horrendous stories about the customs tax. What is the percentage customs charge on headphones?

So fellow members, any advise gratefully accepted please. I await your collective wisdom with interest.

D

Re: 5.1 Wireless Headphones

Hi,

I'm fairly sure that the 800's are an older model. My brothers of to NY next week so hopefully gonna get him to grab me a set of the 2000's. They seem to get good press from everybody.

Audiocubes postage is quite reasonable but I think you will have to pay VAT and a customs clearance fee from Royal Mail (normally about £15)

Good luck.

Re: 5.1 Wireless Headphones

Does the Denon AVR3800 not have its own built-in Dolby Headphone capability?

On the 2000's expect a wait of 2 weeks to allow for customs charge. I paid £12.50 Royal Mail clearance then about £30-£40 customs charge. Royal Mail never ended up charging me though, just pay through their automated phone system. They arent the loudest for movies but very loud on the 360, great sound.

I repeat my earlier question.

If the Denon device has its own Dolby Headphone mechanism then it will be a waste of money to pay for an external Dolby Headphone decoder; instead, plug corded headphones straight into the Denon, or (if you prefer to spend more money for poorer sound quality) use regular cordless 'phones fed from the Denon's headphone socket.

If the Denon doesn't have Dolby headphone capability and you do want an external Dolby Headphone decoder you should probably consider the Philips SBCHD1500U. Of the few people who have heard both the Philips and Pioneer devices, most seem to favour the Philips. It's also cheaper (even allowing for the exchange rate) albeit difficult to source these days.
