headphone amps that use tape loops

Hi,

I'm thinking of purchasing something like the Pro-Ject Head Box SE to take direct inputs from sources such as a DVD player and a network A/V streamer and give me an improved stereo headphone experience over what I currently get from the TV headphone socket.

I'd like to use this without an additional amplifier, but I notice that the Head Box manual seems to infer that you should use the tape loop of an amplifier. Can the unit not work alone? I.E. with the line-out remaining un-connected.

TIA

in a word yep....should work ok....just works like any other amp...source in sound out...in this case headphones rather than speakers.
